| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 25, 2004 The Rogue Smoke Ale pours a hazy, copper red with a decent sized, fizzy white head that lasted pretty well.
The aroma is strong smoke, like smoked summer sausage or bacon and mesquite.
The taste is some malty, almost candy-like, sweetness with strong smoke followed by a nice hoppy finish. Pretty well balanced, but the candy sweetness was a bit much at times. The palate was a little on the thin side.
Overall, a very nice smoked beer. The more of these I have, the more I like them! BUrunner (92), Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 23, 2004 A dark copper pour with a moderate head. Smokey fruit aromas. Smooth mouthfeel with flavor somewhat reminiscent of a campfire or smoked meat. Interesting and not too bad. Jokes (1453), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 18, 2004 Hazy copper body with a persistent thin white head. An enjoyable aroma that is only partially made up of smoke. Strong citric hops, mesquite chips and a touch grainy malt underneath. The body is what I would have expected, smooth and neither too thick nor too thin. I enjoy that the smoke flavors are not too strong, like Schlenkerla. At times this almost seems IPA-ish, which keeps someone like me (read: I don’t like smoke or barbeque) interested longer. I think the hops help carry through the smoked malts. I’ve had much worse in the field of smoked beers. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA

Great smoky aroma that reminds me of smoked almonds. Tastes like malt, with a smoked nut flavor and the same finish. A unique, and delicious, style. SpringsLicker (2042), Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 3, 2004 This starts out with a big head on a deep copper beer. Heavy smoke aroma that will please the smoke lover but is enough to turn away anyone that doesn’t like the style. Smoke is strongly present in the flavor as well, but overall there are hops and malt to balance this out nicely. mardermax (71), santa cruz, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 3, 2004 Poured yet again from the Rogue brew pub in San fran. Have you ever been to a bonfire? fuckin’ A. it smelt like the morning after you’d gone to a bonfire, got totally hammered, and sat right in front of the burning bonfire. Poured like an amber, but the bartender didn’t really give a rat’s ass about our tasting it, so the head was fairly large to start. Tasted just like a bonfire too, but the pungency diminished slighty over time. Slighty hoppy too.. Another interested idea by rogue, and it was a pleasure to try a smoked barley-esque beer, but not my steeze entirely.. Brewso (238), Mt Kisco, New York, USA
