Aroma is all smokey, deep, we're just missing the salmon here...
Taste: neat hop appearance, good malt, with smokefull on the palate, but not too strong, pretty palatable, spicy, fruity.
Not as hearty as the likes of Schlenkerla, but sweet and juicy, tasty, I can see this as an excellent accompanied by great meals, meaty and cheesy.
Hops really do ride the thing through, provide such succulent flavor.
Smooth, yet smokey and spicy, and surprisingly drinkable.
22 0z. bomber, and the first bottle I've ever seen, where I learned that this one is dedicated to to the fall of the Berlin Wall, and to all the great beer that issued forth from the great land of Deutsch.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 4, 2004 Med copper color with a light tan head that was very full. Med smoke aroma with hops mixed in. Good smoke flavor with some bitterness from the hops. There is some sweet malt flavor in the middle with a dry slight bitter finish. Pass me the deer jerky too go with this beer! A good overall beer. axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 31, 2004 Definate smoked nose with citrusy hops also very present. Thick looking red/orange body with a small thick white head. Smoky malts flavor that gets bitter and dries out in the finish. Very smooth. tidiaguy (168), Hawley, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 30, 2004 Reddish brown body with a small white head. Fruity smoke aroma slighlty orangeish notes. Smokey hoppy flavors lean twoards a bitterness that works well with smoke. Finishes slighty sweet and dry with a clean bitter after taste. Enjoyable brew. flemdawg (485), Naples, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 27, 2004 Subtle smoke aroma, like bacon or some other sort of meat, is the first thing I noticed, but that was to be expected. What wasnt expected was the hint of sweetness right before the smoke, or the slight hops afterward. Very intruiging. Hazy yellow-red color with some carbination feeding a thin white head. An over riding smoke taste, but it doesnt dominate like schlenkerla does. There are hops and sweetness to mingle with the smoke to make a tasty beer. jables (101), Champaign, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 16, 2004 Amber hue with a large thick off white head. Clings to the glass nicely.
OOh the smoky aroma is apparent very early. Also some sweet malt and hops behind that.
Nice and smoky flavor like a liquid beef jerky but softer and in a good way. The smokey malts are balanced nicely by a moderate hoppy bitterness. Despite what the bottle says, I don't think the finish is intense with hops. The hops are oily and slick on the tongue but not overwhelming.
A nice tasting beer, interesting style (my first of this style). I wouldn't say it's the best beer but its definitely a good one and an interesting one.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 16, 2004 A smoke aroma that comes out as slightly woody, even English? Good quality. Clean, copper color with a ring of head. Intriguing, almost vinyla flavors, it comes out with good malts and a softer palate than the typical Rogue beer. (on tap at Rogue Ales Public House, Portland)
