elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Feb 8, 2009 Bomber from beer tasting. Pours orange with a medium head. The group I was in was undoubtedly hyped to try their first “smoked.” Aroma was smoked wood, cured meat, and flowery hops – a good combo. This turned out to be the best way to describe the flavor as well. By the end of my glass, I became fixated on calling this a “hoppy smoked.” Fortunately, it worked. Reminds me of an interesting twist on their American Amber. douglas88 (1557), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Jan 31, 2009 Bomber at the Bayou after a long night of drinking. Pours a light and clear copper color with a small white head. The aroma is fairly smoky, some malts also. The flavor is upfront meaty, some malts come through, the finish is all liquid smoke. Not as smoky as others but noticeably so to say the least. I probably shouldn’t have drank a whole bomber of this, but it went surprisingly well. Fairly quaffable, especially for a smoked. puggy211 (576), cordova, Tennessee, USA Jan 30, 2009 Poured a dark cloudy orange brown with little in the form of a head. Plenty of salty smokey bacon in the aroma of course, but little else could be discerned. Flavour profile was ok, but not great. However, the palate was pleasingly full. topherh (878), Kearney, Missouri, USA Jan 14, 2009 Pours copper with a beige head. Aroma is smoke. Flavor is charred wood, smoke, light malt, and hops. Needs something to balance the smokiness. OD40oz (600), Box Elder, South Dakota, USA Dec 30, 2008 This beer pretty much sucks ass. Orange in color with a white bubbly head. Smells like a bottle of liquid smoke and tastes like the smell of a campfire while on a wicked hangover. Reminds me of camping, which I really hate doing. I really like most Rogue brews but they can stick this one up the crack of their ass. The only reason i wont rate it a 0.5 is because it gets a few tenths of a point for creativity which is like giving the retarded kid in school an A for effort. fidelis83 (709), Clinton, Iowa, USA Dec 29, 2008 Pours milky burnt orange with particulate, and a creamy orangish light tan head that could have been passed off as ice cream, good retention too. Aroma is smoked malt, charred/grilled fruit, peaches, and a planty hop note. Flavor is smoked malts peppery yeast, burnt toast, roast, weak black tea. Finish is smokey, bitter hops and a nice lingering char, as if I had just eaten some BBQ. Pretty good beer just not too impressive. ROGUE (621), Newark, Delaware, USA Dec 13, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours bronze-copper color with a medium tan head that leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is very smokey and woody. Sweet malt is overtaken by the strong smokey flavor that also has some slight fruit and breadiness. The hops bring dry bitter finish. An ok beer.
markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Dec 7, 2008 Not my favorite style, but this beer has redeeming qualities. Not bad on the palate- not overwhelming. Pours a yellow/ orange color with an aroma of campfire and band-aid. Flavor is similar with malt involved in the mix. Finish is lingering smoke and bitterness.
