Tmoney99 (4661), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Aug 22, 2008 Bottle from Beertopia, Omaha, NE. Poured clear dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate smoke malty and hop aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet smoke flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectation where exceeded. Gethinbeer (997), Nova Scotia, Canada Aug 21, 2008 Bottle. Fresh aroma of caramel, fruit and hops. Deep golden orange colour with a thin head. Smoked flavour of spice and hops. Little thin, hoppy smoky finish. Solid ale from rogue as usual but not my favourite. thechandler (268), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA Aug 15, 2008 My first smoked ale. Pours a medium-brown. Aroma is good, kind of a good hearty maltiness, with a definite smoke aroma. Flavor is very woody, obviously, due to the smoke. Pretty nice level of hoppiness too. Good balance, nice smokey flavor. Pretty darn good.
NomDeBeer (398), Maryland, USA Aug 11, 2008 Sweet malt aroma and flavor of caramel and peat. The smoke flavor is nice and ashy. Almost medium-bodied with a pleasant earthy hop finish. Good brew. KimJohansen (6676), Copenhagen V, Denmark Aug 9, 2008 Bottle @ Chris O’s post GBBF tasting. Clear deep amber. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, smoke and caramel. Sweet flavor with toasted malt, caramel, smoke and hops that gives it bitter finish. junon (210), Honolulu, Hawaii, USA Aug 6, 2008 Incredible. This is my first "Smoke Ale" and this really gives even the most roasted porters and stouts a run. At the widest part of the glass its impossible to see through just the way I like my beer. The alcohol is not masked in anyway and it is obvious right away that its a bit stronger than average. It really does smell and taste like something bbq’d or like someone said a "camp fire". Nicely done Rogue. blutt59 (2045), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 31, 2008 bottle, light amber color, smoked peat nose, flavors tend toward leather and tobacco notes instead of BBQ, partake with a fuente Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Jul 27, 2008 Pours a hazy gold with a creamy beige head that laces nicely. The nose is of smoky pale & bready malt, light peat and campfire notes dominating. Light to medium-bodied and slightly grainy with a dry bitter finish. The flavor is of dry, smoky pale malt, a lightly phenolic note and a peaty, grassy-hopped finish. This one might be decent with certain foods, but as a stand-alone, it’s not that great.
