Clear dark copper. Sweet, pine, and definitely smokey, but not like a typical smoked porter. Would be great w jerkey or fish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rated on 8-12-2009 (Bottle) This beer forms a medium sized fizzy tan head that mostly diminished, hazy amber body, fast rising carbonation, and very little lacing. The Aroma is malt, pine hops and smoke. The Taste is semi-sweet, pine hops, mildly smokey, and a very dry finish. The Palate is fizzy and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, this beer does not taste overly smokey which suits me just fine as I do not like overly smokey tasting beer. This beer is worth trying if one enjoys this beer style.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap, listed as "John’s Locker Stock 15k". Pours a dark black with a thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate malt, light smoked meats, roasted malts. Flavor of roasted sweet malt with light smoke and bitter chocolate in the finish. Starts off a bit sweet but the finish is nice. Pretty good mild smoked beer.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Probably the first Smoked beer I ever had, as it was described to me by the fine folks at Sam’s Quik Shop as "bacon beer." What kind of philistine would not make an immediate purchase? It’s not going to crowd anything from Bamberg from the top rank or anything, but as a modestly tweaked malty beverage (enough peat and caramel here to suggest the base might be a scotch ale), it’s reasonably satisfying.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Brown-black with thin, but perfect chocolate cream head. Wonderful salty chocolate sea air nose with a whisper of steamship smoke. The flavor yaws toward the smokier end with a thick, oily, sooty black patent-forward body with a salty, caramel underpinning. Wet sooty, roasty mouthfeel. Very thick stuff, though I wish the flavor would develop a bit mroe.

65 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 07.11.2009
Aroma has some smoke, tar and distant woody notes. Flavour is somewhat sweet smoke, some tar, woody notes and hints of chocolate. Sticky palate, but still feels a bit thin.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft while waiting for the wort to boil at Copper Kettle Brewing in Pittsburgh. Nicely balanced while maintaining a certain crispness on the mouth feel. Here the smokiness is not overwhelming or heavy, just sorta creeps in on the palate at just the right time. Similar to the German smoked beers and very welcome this side of the ocean as all too few of the craft brewers are willing to produce in this neglected family. Cheers for Rogue’s accomplishment.
