3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 thedm (4116) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - APR 2, 2003
UPDATED: JUN 4, 2003 This brew has a smoked sausage aroma. Medium head of fine light brown bubbles above a tempting cloudy dark brown body. Tastes like carbonated sausage too. It also has a strong smoke aftertaste.

Pours a clear golden color with a frothy white head. Aroma reaks of smoke. Wonderful taste of smoke and malt, but not much else. As much as I liked it, I couldn’t finish one myself. I think this requires food.

dark golden, hoppy and smoky.
Reminded me of smoked bacon/pork, one hell of a kick to it. Defenitaly a unique taste. Sharing a bottle is enough for me.
Enjoying the smoked taste might take some getting used to.

My first smoke beer, and I found it utterly beguiling: appearing like a good-looking pint of dark amber bitter with a good head, but with an unexpected and savoury aroma of smoked bacon and cucumber. Pehaps I was hoping for a bit more hoppy bitterness, but overall it was deliciously smooth and drinkable. There seem to be half a dozen Rogue beers in Sainsbury’s these days. I look forward to working through them.

Pours a reddish orange with a medium tan head. Like seemingly all rauchbiers, this smells like smoked, processed meat. Maybe sausage. The taste is more of the same, except this one seems tamer. Has some hints of malt and hops amongst the smoked ham taste. Not a bad beer finishes with little smokiness and lacks an unpleasant aftertaste.

Found this to be not as salty and meaty as most smoked beers - Rogue did this one right - mostly drinkable (not a huge fan of the style). Has a smoky aroma (of course) and smoked meat flavor - but not overdone. Appearance - not very attractive - murky light brown. The patented Rogue hoppiness adds a nice touch to a style that I am not particularly fond of.

0.65 l bottle from Systembolaget. Hazy dark amber color, foams over. The aromas of leathery, tarry and barnyardy smoke. Malty and smoky flavor with bacon, tar, wet wood and fruity rogue house flavor. Bitter, smoky and yeasty finish. Fairly carbonated and full bodied, oily palate when yeast is added. Surprisingly barnyardy-leathery smoke aroma and flavor, not completely my kind of smoked.

(650ml bottle) Rocky, almond head and a copper body. Nice carbonation. Nose of cured meat. Slight hops. Not as overpowering as Rauchbier. Good!
