Copper orange-red body, thin light cream/off-white head. Smoked malt flavor (duh) and grain (toast) but that damned house yeast still dominates the flavor profile! Medium-bodied. Nice twist but Pacman rules all. zach8270 (2152), Henrietta, New York, USA

Aroma is lots of smoke, meat, salt and a touch of malt. Slightly sweet malt taste at the beginning with lots of smoke and beef underneath. Leaves a slight hint of cigarette smoke in your mouth after. I don’t think I liked smoked beers as a style. jsquire (2132), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Nov 12, 2003 Murky brown out of the little bottle with no head and only few bubbles. It smelled of greasey, smokey ham. Flavors of smoke, ham, brown sugar and burnt wood. I'm not sure of the quality of this little bottle, but I bought it not long ago. Just didn't hit my spot I guess. bager (2121), Copenhagen N, Denmark

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 6, 2001 Updated: Jun 20, 2003Rerate from a fresh bottle. This is now available in 22oz bottles - thats alot for this beer, but it was drinkable enough, and I didn"t have any trouble finishing this off - despite my previously held opinion that the smaller bottles were large enough. Poured a hazy red-amber, with a medium sized long lasting head. Aroma was of medium intensity, with notes of smoked sausage and campfire, backed by some mild caramelish malts. Smooth and malty upfront, with plent of smoked sausage flavors all around. Other notes of campfire and burnt wood. Mild crisp finish, almost dry. Nicely done. I recommend sampling this at close to room temperature (70 deg F) rather than cellar temp - the malts really begin to show up and provide a nice smooth roundness to the profile. Addendum: a lingering bitterness contained a twang not entirely pleasant. TAR (2097), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 10, 2003 Bomber; aged year and a half: Unfiltered clear hazel with a thin bubbly off-white head. Plump meaty malt wafts along with phenols, damp tea leaf, and beech. Metallic, caramel, and leafy, perfumey hop whispers amidst a fair amount of esters beneath the smoke. Soft, fizzy carbonation. Slick, jellyish body. Snappy hop start with the signature buttery Rogue house yeast. Solid Saaz backdrop supplies an ample counterattack to the woody malts, buttery yeast, and lightly tart alder aspects. Ends with and an astringent smoked malt/toffee malt dusting and an array of fruity esters. Zesty, lightly juicy noble hops nestle up to endless layers of smoke and earth, leaving lasting afterthoughts to match the lingering raw malt richness. The base of this is almost as captivating as the Schlenkerla line; only here, there's more fizz and phenols and a less impressive body. Nevertheless, this is sheer heavenly with a hunk of smoked gouda or oak smoked cheddar.
