So I will try to rate in a way to give it respect, even if I find it difficult to swallow. You know the ole wive’s tale about gargling saltwater for a sore throat, well, this one had that astringent quality that made it difficult to swallow. To be far though, I think this of most every "smoke" beer that I have ever tried. mjs (1559), Helsinki, Finland

Nice smoked aroma, malty. Up front sweet smokey malty taste with a definite bitter hop finish. Easy drinking, light bodied and well carbonated. Has that Rogue juciness. Need to go find some BBQ chips. jasonp (1514), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 3, 2004 At the Brickskellar. Pours a clear copper with an off-white head. Aroma is of smoky BBQ, quite nice. Taste has notes of smoked meats, caramel and dark sugar. Pretty sweet. Medium body which gets watery on the back end. I wish this brew had more thick malty body and a last second punch of smokiness but it never comes back... Overall, solid. dmac (1507), Toms River, New Jersey, USA

Pours a reddish/brown with a small quickly disipating bubbly off white head. Big smokey aroma, thin/medium bodied and a smokey flavor that finishes with a slight touch of aciditty. Average beer which is about what I expect from Rogue. SuIIy (1504), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA

Light amber color. Rich caramel and smoke aroma. Pretty good smoked flavor, with decent caramel and bitterness. Ale fruitiness doesn’t seem to really go with the smoke, though. Slightly spicy, like cinnamon, too. Interesting, different, and nice enough.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 6, 2005 The pour is a muddy amber almost brown. The aroma is very strong sour smoke. The flavor is smooth smoked. Not as extreme as Aecht, but still quite smokey. I don’t know if I would have bottled it in bombers. Thats a whole lot of flavor for one sitting.
