Not bad on the palate- not overwhelming. Pours a yellow/ orange color with an aroma of campfire and band-aid. Flavor is similar with malt involved in the mix. Finish is lingering smoke and bitterness. BuckNaked (1211), Tempe, Arizona, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 6, 2005 22oz bottle: Deep amber with ruby highlights, slightly hazy, with a small frothy beige head. Aroma is earthy smoked malts, wood smoke, and hints of sweet fruit, spruce, with a very subtle touch of sweet honey covered malt. Taste is light smoked malt, sweet toffee, smoky caramel, earth, floral hops, and some smoked meat (though nowhere near as much as schlenkerla). Medium bodied, mild carbonation, well-rounded mouthfeel. Finishes somewhat dry with notes of light smoke and mild pine. I love smoked ales and always enjoy trying a new one. I like this take on the style, though I would like to see a bit more assertive smoke character carry through the full length of flavors. Zinister (1207), Houston, Texas, USA

Great smokey malt with smoked salmon nose and ends with malty caramelness. Flavor is similar with hickory charcoal notes that end in a nice iced-bourbon flavor. Hops are apparent and blend well with the malt. Very nice. SDalkoholic (1198), Chula Vista, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 2, 2009 On tap @ Hamilton’s pub: Poured in color a medium mahogany color with a decent sizing of head. The nose does allow for scents of Rogue’s signature malt along with a mild smoky aroma. The flavor is the usual Rogue taste added with a strong smokiness too it, but has a weird astringent aftertaste. Miguel (1181), Saint-Ours, Quebec, Canada

Ça ne vaut pas la Schlenkerla. malgré qu’étant accessible, ce pourrait être un bon soulagement. J’ai bien aimé quand même. Hopistotle420 (1178), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA

Starts with sweet chewy malts, smoke arrives immediately. Charred, smokey wood notes, fairly thin in body, with a lingering smokey bacon flavor, with hints of hops and bitterness, and a touch of alcohol. A nice rendition, very drinkable. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 23, 2008 (Bottle) Pours a brown color with a nice looking white head. Rich malty aroma includes smoke and peat. Taste includes similar notes, as well as some sweet toffee, wood and mild hops. The smoke is not overwhelming at all. Very easy to drink, but had a good palate as well. Medium-low carbonation. Another good Rogue product.
