It is totally a BBQ in your mouth! The aroma smells like you are standing over a camp fire! I thought that it would be darker for a smoke ale. This is incredible. I would not drink more than one at a time. The flavor would end up being overpowering after more than just one. I need to try other smoke ales before I make my final decision on this one.

Smoak, aged in French Oak barrels, is the version I had, and it knocked me over. Great with food, wonderful on it’s own. One of my favorite rauchbiers to date.

Bottle in a pint glass. Pours dark orangish with small lasting head. Aroma of smoke, caramelized malt, grassiness. Flavors of smoked maltiness. Clean sweet finish. Excellent medium body low carbonation. Very nice.

22 ounce bottle from The Box Bar in Plymouth, MI. A quick pour produced a three-finger, cream-colored head that reduced to one finger in a minute. Amber in color. Aroma is all smoke; nothing delicate about it. Taste is smoky, too, with some malt and a mild hop finish (not the intense hop finish advertised on the bottle. On par with Schlenkerla. Try it.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Leighton (3595) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 5, 2011
Gravity cask at GBBF, Day 4. Pours cloudy amber with a dense, foam head. Big smoke nose, beach wood, not dark and roasty, subtle ham and minerals. Medium sweet flavor, some honey-cured ham, smoked cedar, cheese, light caramel and toast. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Great condition. Plenty smokey on the finish but not at all overbearing. The sweetness counters the smoke wonderfully. Bit more honey and caramel, rocks and minerals. Excellent.

Hazy dark pumpkin orange appearance. Frothy biship’s collar at the top. Head evaporates quickly. Nice color, not much else.
Wonderfully smoky smell, like burning embers in a fire pit. Would go great with jerky or barbecue. Charred wood and slow-cooked meat.
The smoky Rauchbier flavor (even though this is an ale, not a lager) comes through, like sitting near a fireplace. The hops are a sweet accent tot he smokyness. Tangy and zesty!
Watery feel but still real strong. Needs to be thin to balance out the rest of the flavor. This baby makes you FULL! This beer is a meal unto itself. Very smoky and filling. Tremendously pleasing.

On tap at Cole’s Buffalo. Rogue John’s Locker Smoke Ale. Very strong smoke aroma and lighter taste of smoke in this dark ale. Medium body and slight bitterness.

Rich Amber almost bronze. Smells smokey - surprisingly! Sort of bonfire smoke, not a coal fire, nor your usual open fire. The palate is built around a rich malt base - nice a fat with some light fruit charachters. Then the smoke kicks in. Second swallow, third swallow like what you get from the hops in a big rich IPA. Here it’s the smoke. Maybe it’s that I did smoke when young but this has some funk and I love it.
