Commercial Description:

18 Years, 10 Thousand Brews, 1 Brewer

Big, earthy malt flavor balanced by lingering hoppiness, with hints of citrus. 7 Ingredients: Vienna, French Special Aroma and Maris Otter pale ale malts; Yakima Summit and German Saphir hops; the top-fermenting Pacman yeast; and as always free range coastal waters.

Fairly complex flavours happening in here but the classic Rogue hops and dark chocolate dominate. Pours very thick, a hazy orange with small yellow head. Nicely bitter with a sweet backbone, very noticeable alcohol. This alone probably caused the recent hop shortage.

Pours a cloudy orange with some red highlights. Off white head. Nice sweet malt balances well against the citrus hops, mainly grapefruit. I probably shouldn’t have waited so long to try this, so the hops would have been better. Way too expensive for the quality of beer though.

Pours dark golden with a thick white head that is very sticky. Strong hop aroma, it almost stings the nostrils. Very strong hop flavor up front that lingers in the aftertaste. More of a bitter hop flavor than aroma hop. Good balance in the aftertaste that ends up tatsing like a very clean refreshing beer while still packing a punch at 10%. Does not age well, this beer was best when first brewed.

PIB 2008. Pours glowing orange, hazy, with a soft white head. Very big grapefruit hop nose. Hops were fresh and aromatic, slightly sharp on the bitterness, piney note in the finish. Palate was heavy and a bit thick, but didn’t seem to lack floral notes because of it.

750 ml bottle. this is more like a IIPA for me... an aged IIPA. and it is definitely over-priced. Not worth the $20+ that this one cost.... anyways.... was still very enjoyable. pours a deep red with a thick white head. citrus in the aroma... as well as some aged malts. some salt up front and grapefruit coated hops on the back end. some alcohol on the finish. medium body... somewhat one dimensional overall. good, but not great.

I liked the bold texture mixed with heavy grapefruit. Poured hazy orange. Huge hop and malt combo done just right. Strong white head deteriorating slowly. Great piney aroma right from the first sip to the last sip. Surprisingly smooth at 10%
