"The big, earthy malt flavor" was overridden by the hops so as to be barely detectable. The short aftertaste was pure hops. I couldn’t call that balanced. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 17, 2007 Pours a copper color with little head. Had this on tap. Taste is nice and smooth, malty, with a nice hop finish. Nicely balanced brew. Nothing groundbreaking but good. Cybercat (787), Georgia, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 15, 2007 Color is a beautiful brownish-golden with a hint of red, not much of a head to it. Aroma is not strong, but is promising. Flavor is nice and hoppy but also has some malty undertones and some bitterness that does not carry over muvh into the aftertaste. If you don’t mind a fair amount of bitterness, this is a drinkable and enjoyable brew, a worthy way for Rogue to celebrate an awe-inspiring milestone. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 15, 2007 Nose of perfume, orange, pine & spruce, bubblegum, lilac, and resin. Pours a hazy blonde honey amber. The mostly lasting ultra-stiff off-white head leaves very good lace. The flavor is HUGE and very complex. Swirling from malty to spicy to sweet to sour to bitter to toasted, this brew pretty much covers all the bases. The citrus presence is a lovely treat. The thick & full body is soft and dry, perfect. Hat’s off to my friend Tony for giving me the "head’s up" on this brew. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 14, 2007 Perfectly clear amber color with a large billowing cap of lightly off-white foam. Keeps an always lingering firm skim at the top and the lace is minimal with an oily spottyness strewn about.
Aroma is pleasant and soft of orange blossoms and mild waxy lemon. There’s a slight pull into a resinous pine, but everything here is soft and floralesk. Fresh and perfumed, clean and hoppy.
Flavors are toned well with a broad range of pine soaked in orange oil. Slightly toasty, tuggingly rough warmth gradually gallops on the palate as it finishes with a big nudge of pine resin and tattered citrusy flowers and waxyness. Bitterness is gentle and lasting within a warm blanket of toastyness. This is perhaps a bit young yet. A little aging might help it round out some? But won’t take much. Altogether the complexity is a touch thin in flavor but has a nice tone and length for a Dbl IPA. Its overall softness and gentle glide is favorable.
The body is big and bold, yet soft and delicate. Close to medium if not just a hair bigger as the hops carry this thing through with warmth, oil, and floralness, and a uniquely clean bitterness.
Drinkability is good as its tender tone and palate eases a soft lipped bitterness and toasty little warmth. Either way; like or dislike, or somewhere in between. It’s impressive to think of the 10,000th batch for Rogue! Congrats to them and to another 10,000! Skyview (4020), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 14, 2007 From a 22oz ceramic bottle shared at JK’s Spring Gathering, pours a cloudy dark amber with a thick off white head. Lacing is average. Aromas of citrus, green apples, grapefruit, and near IPA hoppiness. Taste more of banana, butterscotch, lychee and little barley malt. Finish is a bit syrupy and a little pine aftertaste. For $20 a bottle, it’s overrated. Special note... I can’t believe someone paid $37 plus $12 shipping for this on eBay a week ago. Maybe I’ll put my bottle on ice for five years and see what I can fetch on eBay. scraff (1942), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 14, 2007 Tap - CB Six Bar (NYC) - Orange, creamy white head. Soft nose of candied grapefruit and honey, with lighter tones of spruce and toasty sweet malt. Hoppy florals and citrus flavors throughout, but with only medium bitterness factor. Light caramel malt keeps it all in check. Shocking for Rogue actually. Booze shines a bit here too. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry finish. Nothing spectactular here...just ok...
