| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 23, 2007 Updated: May 31, 2007Bottle (750ml ceramic). Shared with LagerLoather, his bottle. Cloudy amber, decent beige pancake batter lasting head. Smells of green mild funky eastern european hops, mild alcohol, sweet cereal grain malt - pretty nice! Taste is a little alcohol-dominated, fairly generic bitterness (UK style, really), bitter longish linger - did I say boozy? Light body, solid carbonation and astringency, too much alcohol in the finish - nice, but way, waaaaaaaay overpriced (and hyped). mnurda (439), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 21, 2007 Thanks Jason for a sampling of this one! Glad I got to try it, but would warn everyone out there that you WILL be let down. Especially considering the price point that they chose for this one. Disclaimer: Price was NOT a determining factor in my rating. Decent copper pour with an average head and lacing. Some promise here with a decent hop profile by way of the typical house hop character associated with Rogue. Very light on the mouthfeel and overall body. Just not enough, "oomph" here to justifiy this as a strong ale. Some nuttiness from the Maris and a bit of caramelization, but again, just needs "more" of......well, everything. Glad I had the opportunity to sample this with some great RB folk, but can’t help wishing this had lived up to the hype. patrick767 (2058), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 3, 2007 bottle shared by thedm and hotstuff - Pours orangish with a substantial head. It has a great hops aroma with lots of grapefruit. The flavor is also highly hopped. I mean it’s really, really hoppy. I was thinking double IPA level though my fellow tasters argued that the hops profile is different and I eventually agreed. There’s some citrus and pine notes in the flavor. There’s some caramel malt in there somewhere, but the hops really overwhelms everything else. It lacks balance. Perhaps as a result, it seems like even more than the stated 60 IBUs. It’s still pretty good, but for the price... ouch. IrishBoy (2732), Bakersfield, California, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 8, 2007 Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, toasted grain, caramel), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, resin), with notes of alcohol and peach. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium to fully body, velvety/watery texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. The alcohol isn’t hiding anywhere, but it’s not overbearing. Fairly abrasive in the mouth. Pretty run-of-the-mill character overall...hodge-podge mix of malt and hops. Just another American strong ale.
