3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
Strong aroma of maple-frosted donut/maple bacon and smoke...right on with the title. Deep copper-amber in color with khaki-colored head. Soft in texture. Light-bodied and flovorful but not overbearing...smoke, maple, bacon...pretty much like the aroma.

Definitely polarizing but this one works for me. Might have gotten old if drinking it alone but the savory bacon goodness matched up quite well with a steak. Aroma is heavy on the maple while the taste is heavier on the bacon and smoke. Sweet but not cloying. Wish I’d picked up two.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: MAR 15, 2012 22 oz. bottle (yeah, the Pepto Bismol colored bottle) served in a shaker- I immediately snagged this bottle when I saw it on the shelf, so let’s see if that was a good thing. Poured a transparent slightly darkened copper color, low carbonation, solid one finger head with a few frog eyes upon the surface refused to diffuse even after threatening to call Obama upon it, and it laced nicely as well. Aroma of .... HOLY S&)T- glazed doughnuts, REAL maple syrup (I see "authentic Texas syrup" down here and I laugh my ass off- back in MI the Amish and I would hit up the maples in the spring and light it up!), maple, and a splash of smoke- very nice! Hits the mouth with a medium body, the malt is there but suddenly that glazed doughnut sensation isn’t a joke- it’s there in the tasting as well! The finish transcends from sweetness to the gritty, animalistic goodness that is bacon covered in maple syrup. This would be nothing short of AWESOME on a day off, early in the morning, paired with pancakes, bacon, and harda$$ coffee, so it’s a little disappointing in the evening. But I’m smitten by it- those that aren’t, quityerbitchin’, getinthekitchen, and bakemeapie. That and (original writing neutered for those that still have to tuck)- HA! (Makes ya wonder what my 1000th rate will be, won’t it?)

Good (especially for a smoked beer). It’s brown and has only a little head. Taste has everything on the label except I can’t find the doughnut.

2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Good head to start on dark amber. HUGE aroma turned off the people I offered a taste to. Big maple notes start of the scent but an equal weight of smokiness from the malt and a good backing of bacon. Beer is not the first thought that comes to mind when smelling the beer. Add the word "doughnut" and I do think of a maple glazed pastry. The aroma may not be attractive particularly for a beer but it does arouse curiousity. As my wife pointed out the smoked malt gives the beer a bit of an ashy flavour. Beer seems to have a bit of an Amber metallic note. Bacon note seems strongest in the finish and then the ash comes back in the aftertaste. I like experiments and applaud the effort but would not seek out again. Tastes better than the pizza beer last month!

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, shared with Parksy and Felix. This was a fun beer to pass around and watch how various people reacted to it. Very hazy medium amber appearance with a relatively short-lived head. The aroma sets the stage for a unique tasting experience: sweet maple bacon and cake-like malts fill the nose. The flavour is very heavy on the smoke, with a sweet maple base. Nothing really offsets the sweetness here, and the smoke really comes on strong. It is certainly does what it sets out to do. It tastes exactly like a maple-bacon-donut. Parksy said it tastes like a McGriddle in a glass. We weren’t convinced that this is a good thing until Felix pointed out that we were considering this beer outside of proper context. This is a breakfast beer. It should be drunk in the morning with a plate of eggs and hashbrowns. I have one more bottle in my fridge and I will be serving it for brunch at some point. Quirky, weird, unbalanced, but I liked it for what it is.

9 mar 2012, bottle. Amber, clear, no bubbles. Smells like maple syrup drizzled over McDonald's sausages. Thin, creamy body. Taste is disappointing. Lightly smoked cheap sausage. Meh.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Maple and slight smoke jump out of glass. Pours slightly hazy copper with white head. Taste ovmaple with nice blend if smoke. Some fleshy components from bacon in aroma and mouthfeel. Honestly, I don’t know why this beer gets panned so much. Good balance and the smoke malt is restrained - which is nice.

(22oz bomber) clear orange with wispy tan bubbles. Nose and taste of applewood bacon, syrupy sweet maple syrup, woodo, just gross. Hated it.
