750ml pink bottle. Rating #66. Dark amber/orange color with a big bubbled white head. Sweet maple vanilla aroma, light smoke and salty. Sweet flavor, more maple and vanilla with a smokey salty finish. Not bad and very different. (2133)

Purchased at Bruery Provisions in Orange, CA; enjoyed at a co-workers hotel room at the Hilton in Anaheim, then taken in a to-go coffee cup while taking a cab out to eat. Being a fan of the brewery, the doughnut shop, and the processed commodity, I couldn’t pass up the chance to purchase this, and I’m glad I didn’t because it was gone from the shop within 24 hours. Appearance a murky brown with a thin white head and tiny bacon sediment at the bottom of the mug...app gets 5 points for bacon sediment, and I don’t care how unfair that may be. Aroma of smoked malt, bacon, sweetness from the maple syrup, kind of smelled like the Voodoo bar. Taste almost mimicked the doughnut bar, had a nice sweetness from the maple syrup, and you can get the saltiness from the bacon. To come close to replicating the food in beer form is flat out impressive. Job well done, Rogue!

Sample at Eurostash III tasting on 01/12/2012: This was a Christmas gift from bluemeow76. The beer is a clear amber color with a medium foamy light beige head that diminishes slowly. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. The smell as relayed by a 3 year-old is accurate enough: "bacon band-aid". Medium body with a more subtle savory smoked ham flavor along with some roasted malt and maple. The finish is smoky with a sweet caramel malt aftertaste. Knowing this was a gimmick going in I did not have very high expectations. The flavor is more palatable than the smell would indicate, but still not something I would revisit, and I am a fan of both enterprises.

bottle thanks kbutler! pours a thin light brown. aroma is of super smoke and maple flavor. the taste is very bizzare tons of smoke and seems as though the maple is imitation flavoring.
1.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 4/20 BayAreaBeers (85) - Fremont, California, USA - JAN 15, 2012
Pours a burnt amber with just about zero head. Nice and hazy. The aroma is if thick syrup with major amounts of smoked woods. Crazy, crazy aroma! Here is where it takes a turn...the taste is crazy smoky. It’s not that good. It literally tastes like you put bacon in a camp fire and let it simmer for a few hours. The best thing about this beer is it finishes sooo clean. Other than that, I can’t stand it.

750mL bottle, split 4 ways, pours a dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma of maple syrup, slight smokey bacon and doughy notes (uh oh!). Flavour is absolutely revolting, with heavy smoked bacon, slight maple syrup, pancakes and doughnuts. Absolutely atrocious - couldn’t get through more than a couple of ounces before I had to pour this down the drain. Transcendentally awful.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2012 Pours amber medium to light syrup in color with a white head. The aroma is maple bacon 100%, perfect. The flavor is similar, a smoked bacon flavor with sweet delicious maple notes on a medium to light body.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2012 Pours clear light amber color with a medium head. Aroma is super strong stings the eyes at first mostly smoke and a very mild maple in the background. The flavor starts of a little sweetie the big smoke hickory is the most noticeable and over powers everything

I admittedly don’t purchase rogue beers too often. In Canada, they’re way too expensive for the expected level of craft brew. This time, however, I bought it just to post my own opinion of a hyped up beer that I had low hopes for. In BC, Canada, this beer, of all those that have a "bacon" tag to it, is buzzing. And perhaps the buzz is because of the price of rogue suggest it HAS to be awesome. Not to mention the pepto-bottle. As well, I don’t "officially" review beer too often. But, WTFever
Without further adieu...
Pouring a bottle at about 10 degrees C, the aroma is very maple. Slight smoke. And faint nuttiness. The cap was frothy that vanished to a sad bukkake-like splattering. Beyond that, for a smoke beer, the colour of opaque orange/light amber is fine with me. I’d like a bit darker, but again... WTF do I know. I’m certainly not a brewer, let alone one of rogues calibre.
Holy shit knocker. Every bit of aroma is smoked maple.
The taste. Well. What a complete disappointment. Not that I figured it be more, but I didn’t think it’d be such a thin tasting concoction. Again, not sure why I thought that being such a novelty-type beer. Optimism, baby!!!
The taste isn’t good. Palate is flat, as mentioned. Preceded by a faint smoked malt. I’m really trying to get bacon anything out of this. Just a minute saltiness to offset the sweetness. Can’t get maple in the flavour at all. Truly disappointing and really seems to be a beer that becomes whatever the consumer wants it to be.
I get to have the second half still, so my wallet doesn’t actually feel the sodomy. Joy.

Wow. Interesting concept. Pour wasn’t bad and the nose was gimmicky but not too bad. I get the maple, smoke and malts. The taste, however, was AWFUL. It is not fit for man nor beast.
