first thoughts was this beer smells awesome. woody, smokey, maple syrup out the wazoo, but i didnt peg it for maple syrup, i thought it was vanilla, or bourbon. the taste was just intensely maple syrup veiling a thin smokey flavor. it was thin, and light, and not very good.

Appearance: ruddy orange-brown with a creamy off-white head and decent lacing. Aroma: strongly of maple syrup, with notes of smoked beechwood malts and yes, a hint of smoky, salty bacon. Taste: rauchbier-esque, with smoky, meaty, salty bacon and sweet toasty malts, with a strong injection of maple flavoring. Finish: slightly dry and ashy, with the salty, smoky, and sweet notes fighting for supremacy. Notes: This was exactly as advertised. That said, I didnít much care for it. The maple flavoring was syrupy and sweet, and just too strong; it was also artificial tasting. Definite marks for creativity; I especially liked the pepto-pink bottle.

Amber pour with a cream head. Maple, bacon, syrup, smoke. Easy on the palate, nose matches the flavor.

Bottle. Pours with a hazy golden amber hued body with a small off-white head. Aromas are sweet, maple, confectioners powder, sugar, doughy, chocolate, smokey, earthy, ash. Flavors are of firewood, smoke, sweet, burnt and sharp. Mild paint thinner. Lively bubbles, dry and chalky. Honestly it was somewhat better than I expected.

Thanks to my brother for sharing this bottle. I really had no idea what to expect, so I tried to go in with an open mind. The beer pours and orange-amber color with a white head. The aroma is definitely heavy on the smoke, with some maple syrup notes thrown in. Not bad. The flavor is also pretty heavy on the woody smoke, with some maple syrup and toffee notes thrown in. All of those notes mix fairly well together. Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Surprisingly, I donít hate the beer. The four or five ounces I had were enough, but I thought the beer was OK and am glad I got to try it. I thought all the notes mixed pretty well together, they were just so strong and in your face that it would be tough to drink too much of this beer.

Yea, about what you expect. Love their beers and this is made well but the flavor is just too weird.

Pink bottle from BevMo Salinas. Guess I should have saved my money. Nose reeks of bacon fat, smoke (and a smoked should have that), and a slight bit of maple in the background. Clear orange with a big yellow orange tinged head. Flavor is bacon, smoker, and a little bitterness. Finishes lightly bitter and smoky. Where is Yogi when you need him to swipe and finish the bottle?

You know whatís awesome? Bacon. You know what else is good? Doughnuts. Maple syrup? Great on some pancakes, or even when you get some on your bacon. Together, though, with beer? Hell no. Nose isnít too bad; nice smoke and some maple as well as some weirdly sweet I guess doughnut notes. Tastes sickly sweet and like liquid smoke. Didnít mind a few sips but then couldnít bring myself to take more than 2-3 more. Blech.

Pours a pouring orange with fizzy white head. Nose is 100% maple syrup. Taste is very big maple a bit thin a nice roast smoky touch. Decent, odd, not an ever day beer but it was worth trying. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: APR 26, 2013 Bottle shared with Linh and ken at top hops in NYC. Pours a clear amber body with light half finger off white head. Aroma is dominated by maple syrup with some additional notes of smoked meat and pancakes. Mouthfeel is somewhat thin and surprisingly not as maple as the aroma suggests. Instead, the flavor revolves around the smoked character which I wasnít a huge fan of personally.
