Hazy amber, small head. Smokey-sweet-maple aroma. Taste - first and foremost, smoke. Then some bacony-maple-doughy sweetness comes through...ok, guess they named this correctly. This isnít near as sweet as I was expecting. Also, less body than I was expecting...this is a bit watery. Itís an average rauchbier with a fancy name. Decent but I was disappointed.

Bottle from Total Wine. Pours a dark muddy orange with a thumbnail of off-white head. The aroma is indicative of the name with big syrup notes and a hint of roasted pig fat. The taste has more smoke than anything, with notes of burnt twigs, malted syrup, metallic hops in the finish. Medium carbonation and thin/medium body. I couldíve used more body on this to match the fullness of the aroma, but itís actually not bad for a pseudo-Rauchbier. Definitely not for folks who donít like smoked lagers.

Pours a much lighter color than I expected, almost that of darker whiskey. Thin white head. Aroma is light, but once you really dig into it, there is definitely a maple-bacon-esque aroma prevailing here. The flavor, however, is not as good. Bland but noticable in all the wrong places.

A - pours clear golden red with high white head that disappears quickly. S - aromas of powdered sugar, doughnuts, maple, bacon, smoke, hickory. Amazing, it actually smells like doughnuts, bacon, and maple. M - lighter body, but with very bold flavors, simple palate. Never ending raunchy smokey bacon tastes. Gross. T - light hops, grasses up front. Maple, bacon, and smoke on the palate. The longest lingering gross fatty cheap smokey bacon end. O - strange. Actually smells like doughnuts and maple. Tastes like smokey bacon, very very cheap fatty bacon. After taste is awful, but it was what they said. 6

Big pink bottle. Pours a light golden yellow with medium white head. Aroma is really smokey, with a bit of maple syrup. Flavor is sweet and buttery, I am definitely getting a Eggo waffle with "maple syrup" flavor here. Not as bad as you might think, very drinkable, though my fiancee could not stand it. If you have ever eaten waffles with a ton of syrup and bacon on the side, and wondered "I wonder what this would taste like as a beer..." than this is for you!

It tasted great with a very sweet, maple syrup flavor. But the taste was nothing like the aroma. Iím not a fan of smoked flavors in beer to begin with, so this was not something I enjoyed. Iím sure some people will appreciate it, but it was one to say that I tried and just leave it at that.

Scopey (7452) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 16, 2012
Bottle at Leightonís Beer, Bocce and Boozer tasting, thanks to jackl. It pours amber, with a thick white head. The nose is maple syrup, touch of smoke, bacon and cinnamon. The taste is not as extreme as expected: caramel, maple syrup, hint of smoke, bacon and spice (particularly cinnamon), with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. I was pleasantly surprised that this didnít taste sickly sweet.

Dark copper in the glass with a nice white head, looks attractive. Nose has some maple syrup but the predominate aroma is this bizarre, overwhelming chemical/pine needle/herbaceous/rotten thing that I have trouble even parsing, itís like pine sol, cilantro, and some old bananas were dumped on a forest floor, really unpleasant. Things do not improve in the mouth, quite unpleasant sourness throughout, not elegant lambic sour, sour milk sour, with just terrible barnyard/wet straw/old wet bread notes interspersed with artificial, chemical-like flavors, just utterly awful, finishes long which is no blessing, this horrible taste lingers; aggressively bad, which for $12 is really a bit offensive.

Bottle at the Beer, Bocce and Boozer Tasting, London. Thanks Jack for landing this whale. Pours a light, hazy amber with a soft, white foam head. Toasted sugar and smoked malts are obvious in the nose, with lighter notes of caramel, bacon and cotton candy. Medium sweet flavor (not nearly as sweet as I had anticipated) with plenty of greasy bacon, caramel, mild earthy bitterness, nice smoke, ham. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Fairly sweet to finish with light smoke, light caramel, soft hops and restrained bacon. Honestly, I expected this to be some kind of intense novelty beer, but itís actually just a pretty low-key smoked beer. Pretty decent overall.

Bottle @ Beer, Bocce and Boozer tasting. Light brown color with a tiny off-white head. Smells strongly of ham, smoke, maple syrup. The taste isnít nearly as heavy as the nose. Thereís plenty of smoky flavors, meaty ham hock. This isnít nearly as sweet as I thought it would be. The bodyís a bit thin and watery. Light carbonation. Overall, I didnít find this as extreme as I thought it might be. While I canít say I love this beer, I really didnít hate it either. The bottle certainly stands out, too.
