A bit of an redish copper with an average head. I was very excited for this beer and I have been waiting a long time to get one. At 13$ a bottle plus heavy shipping it is very over priced. I find this beer to taste oddly sweet and doughy with a smokey pork taste.

Other than the ratebeer and beer snobs how else does a brewer get such a price for a subpar tasting bre. Well standout aroma of doughnut and maple. Amber body with decent head. Flavor has a mouthfull of sweet maple syrup but no bacon. Alright on palate as the smoke took some sweetener away from it with mild biters. Alright brew.

Bottle, medium amber golden pour. Smells like heavily maple syrup dosed pancakes with a side of bacon. Sweet maple flavor upfront with lingering bacon smoke flavor. Interesting and very unique

750 ml bottle from BevMo - Pours an amber color with a one finger thick off white head. Very light lacing. Aroma and flavor is sweet maple and smoke. Finish is smokey and slightly sweet. Medium body. I like it.

Bottle. Amber colored pour with some off white head. Aroma is smoky, sweet bacony, and some vanilla extract. The flavor is much less powerful than the aroma and sort of flat with an unpleasant aftertaste. It’s kinda gross tasting.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2012 For some reason I was expecting a dark beer, instead I end up with a dark amber brew that shows a hazed, full amber hue with gold highlights when held up to the light. The head is an almost two-finger thick, pale tan color as it sits in my New Belgium Globe glass. The aroma smells of smoke up front that is quickly overcome by a sweet, sugary, maple note. Once you really start to look at the nose the smokiness never disappears and in fact has phenolic notes that suggest strongly of burnt / curing plastic; luckily this is not overwhelming, but it is definitely a problem I have noticed repeatedly from the Briess Cherrywood smoked malt. It is amazing how much this smells like a sugar laden, maple glazed doughnut; an extremely interesting aroma that definitely seems to have nailed the maple component, the bacon though just really isn’t present as the cherrywood smoked malt seems to be a consistently poor choice in the beers I have tried it in.

Despite smelling huge and sticky sweet, the beer is actually fairly dry. It has an almost tartness to it up front, but quickly picks up a smoky flavor that lingers in the palate and the finish has an ample maple like flavor lingering on along with the smokiness. The smoky flavors are quite as plastic like as it is in the nose, but there is a suggestion of plastic to the finish; otherwise it almost has an astringent woody edge to it. The maple character seems more in common with fake pancake syrup than real maple syrup, but it actually isn’t really all that bad though. There is not real bitterness to this beer, it gets its balance from the sharper smoke character. Somewhat light bodied and actually would be fairly quaffable if this was a regular beer.

Definitely an interesting beer, it wasn’t at all what I expected and did in fact nail the maple doughnut character pretty well. The bacon really doesn’t seem to be capture well though. Overall this was interesting, but not something I ever will feel the need to try again. A couple ounces is certainly enough; worth trying for the donut aspects at least.

Smoke aroma with a not-so-subtle bacon undertone struck me like a pork-punch to the face. It poured a lovely deep copper colour but when I tasted it the smoke flavour overpowered virtually everything else-totally unbalanced. Mouthfeel was creamy but left a lingering film which I assume was from the bacon infusion. Overall it’s a bold attempt but ultimately it way overdoes both the smoke and the bacon.

Sampled on 12/3/2011. This American Strong Ale/smoked beer pours a medium orange gold color from a big pink 750ml bottle. Medium to small sized white foamy head, with decent retention and nice lacing. The aroma is maple, bacon and bakery. A medium bodied smoked beer. The malts are maple, smoky, bacony and sweet. There is way more smoke in the flavor than the aroma. The hops are herbal and earthy. Decent carbonation. Nice balance. OK, this is one seriously weird ass beer. It does taste like maple and bacon and there is a bakery and smoke thing going on as well. This is not a beer that you would want to drink a lot of, in fact 2 of us did not even finish the bottle. It is one of those beers where the brewers tried to create flavors that are not typically beer like and I think they succeeded fairly well here. I just think that the three flavors are just a little bit too much, as there are way too many competing flavors here. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Had a small taste from a bottle. It smells slightly smoky and sweet. It tastes like bacon and maple syrup which seemed like a good thing until I remembered I hate it when I get syrup on my bacon/ham/sausage. But if you wanted the experience of blending your entire Denny’s Grand Slam together this is the beer to buy.

pours a flat amber. Looks and smells good, but not the taste. Has an aroma of smoked bacon and the flavor of dennys dirty mop bucket water that was used as an ashtray.
