Bottle: Pours a flat caramel color with a small beige head. Smells like a smokey maple bar... it really does. Taste is plentiful with smoke, that thick campfire type of smoke. Just a hint of the maple sweetness up front before the smoke takes over. A bit of hops at the end competing with the smoke. Aftertaste lingers with maple and smokey bits. Interesting experience.

Another very unique beer from rogue and voodoo doughnut. Pours a very nice deep red with not too much head. Smells like maple bacon, quite smoky. Taste is maple syrup all the way, with bacon coming in at the finish. A good amount of smokes as well. Not the most complex however. Not as good as their original peanut butter beer, but better then the raspberry. Had in the bottle.

22 oz bottle. Aroma: malty. smokey, with hints of bacon (obviously), toast, burned caramel, burned plastic, and failure. Taste/Palate: thin, sweet; finishes savory, astringent, and shitty. Umm...no.

Poured from a 22. (I wish it was a 3oz) Aroma is a microwaved bacon smell. Flavor is like bacon chapstick and dishwater. The smoky bacon flavor is completely overwhelming and the maple doesn’t even make an appearance.

22oz bottle - The thought of this fantastic concoction, combining donuts, maple icing, and bacon just makes a person’s mouth water. On the surface it sounds like a match made in heaven. And I’m sure if you make it to Voodoo Donuts in Oregon, the real deal has to be insanely tasty. But to try and capture that combo in a beer is indeed a challenge, and I think overall Rogue was successful in doing this. I think this is about as good as it could be without being a big syrupy mess of a beer, with unbalanced flavors. The smokey/bacon aroma shows up nicely in the aroma, with a subtle maple flavor. The doughy donut flavor does show up at first, along with the maple and the bacon, but it’s very watered down. After repeat mouthfulls, the flavors kind of get lost amongst each other with the wateryness. Far from awful, and I give kudos to Rogue for trying this.

How: Bottle.
Where: Systembolaget.
Appearance: Amber colour with an off-white head.
Aroma: Smoked sausage, bacon, caramel, maple.
Body: Medium body and carbonation.
Flavour: Smoke, incense, bacon, a bit sweet.
Comment: Not that bad, interesting, but not sure if I want to try it again. Or could stomach finishing an entire bottle myself.

Bottle shared by snoworsummer. Pours hazy copper with creamy off-white head. Aroma is heavy maple, some bacon, light vanilla, some toasted malts, and some doughy yeast notes. Flavor is dry and a little bland, some of the maple and pork flavors but much more subtle than the aroma with light hops and some vanilla/maple sweetness in the finish. Medium body and carbonation.

From a bottle, aged almost two years. Thanks Joe! Pours hazy copper with lots of particles floating around and a fizzy, bubbly beige head. Smells really sweet, like maple syrup, glazed donuts, and also smokey. Tastes like alcohol, smokey, and earthy, a little bit bitter. Light body and low carbonation

"As advertised, though for some unknown reason, i thought it was a porter, not a golden/amber brew. huge maple aroma upon cracking the top. replaced by nice smoky bacon while pouring, and then alternated between them the rest of the way. That’s what I dug the most...the "balance" if you will between the smoke (while i wouldn’t be able to pick them out individually, the fact that they used 3 different wood-smoked malts and applewood-smoked bacon was evident in the beer’s complexity of flavor and aroma), the maple (done well, but what exactly is PURE flavoring?) and the bacon. I had had turkey bacon that morning and it was spot on. It was the consensus that this beer tasted and smelled exactly like they wanted it to. It was also a little too light and thin bodied to support all those flavors, but honestly, that was this beers only drawback. Besides the price-tag. :) Maybe not something I’d want a whole pint of, but I’m glad I got 2. Loved sharing this. Not quite as good the 2nd time around...bacon apparently doesn’t age well :)"

Transfer from BA review on 9-23-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a hazy orange-reddish amber color with a big billowy orange-cream tinted head. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave some nice streaky lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is quite robust of maple syrup smells as well as a smoky, saltwater, and toffee smell. Mixed with these are some bready aromas as well as some meaty smells with hints of hickey smoked bacon mixed within. It actually smells like a mix of very salty maple salt water taffy, doughnuts, and smoked meat. A rather interesting aroma overall. Taste – The taste begins with a somewhat sweeter flavor of maple syrup and toffee with some bready malt. A hint of smokiness is present upfront, with this flavor growing stronger and stronger as the taste advances to the end. Notes of seawater work their way to the tongue along with some flavors of a somewhat oddly bitter bacon/meat taste. The sweeter flavors that were present upfront fade as the taste transitions on to the middle. The bacon taste with lots of flavors of smoke and salt are quite potent at the end and due to a surge of the sweeter flavors of maple syrup and toffee to the levels that were present upfront a rather off slightly bitter and sort of disgustingly sweet and smoky meat taste is left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on medium side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side. I think it is appropriate for the style as it does make it somewhat drinkable, but overall I am not 100% sure. Overall – Well… It looked and smelled rather nice, but the taste was just way too off. It was one I always wanted to try out of curiosity. Now with the curiosity satisfied I will almost assuredly never buy it again. But even with that said, I would recommend to anyone to try it, as it is quite the novelty with quite the reputation.
