apshah99 (137), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 13, 2008 Orange amber in color with a thick foamy white head, hoppy citrus armoa. Bright citrus taste with reserved caramel/toffee malt with very clean refreshing bitter finish. Great carbonation, medium body. sethdude (600), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Mar 7, 2008 As "Fat Head’s": Pours golden with a big fluffy white head. Aroma is very well balanced malts and hops, lot’s of grapefruit and bready unertones. Flavor is big, bitter, and clean. The hops do more to bitter than to flavor the beer, neutralizing the somewhat strong maly backbone. Very english in character, but more bold than your typical bitter. Very nice, quaffable beer. crazyvin (1246), New York, USA Mar 3, 2008 Poured a nice orange yellow hue with a frothy off-white head that had nice retention. Aroma was bread-like, hops and a little grass like notes to it. Flavor was mildly sweet like citrus fruits and honey, and finished with a mild hop bitterness to it. Not overpowering in anyway just smooth and flavor full. Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Feb 17, 2008 Feb. 2007 - Fine beer. Pour was dark copper, thick foamy head and sweet lacing. Aroma was biscuity and citrus hops. Flavor was thick rich malt with a nice bitter hop twang at the end (of grapefruits, predominantly). Smooth mouthfeel, full flavor. Nice. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 17, 2008 On tap at the Bocktown, thanks Chris. Clear brownish yellow orange. Big creamy head that hangs and goes rocky. Initially comes across nicely fruity with just a tad of background bitter. Rather enjoyable I’d say. I liked this one. Barely any bitter linger on the finish but enough to let you know you drank a beer. A good example of a bitter not being bitter! GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA Feb 8, 2008 A decent beer from Rogue. Fairly simple example of the ESB style. Typical for Rogue though, with a good dose of hops in both the aroma and palate. The beer pours out a dark orange color, a simple off-white foamy cap with aromas that was a peppery/spicy hop and malt combo which was different, but nice. Flavors had some light sweet malt combo, a bit undefineable though. Perhaps it was some caramel malts? I think the beer had some age on it, which might have contributed to the marked lack of definition. Citrus and floral hop notes also showed up in the flavor. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Feb 1, 2008 Sampled at Fatheads in Pittsburgh, under the rebadged name of Fat Heads Ale. Pours hazy amber with very little head. Medium to light bodied with a thin British texture. Typical toffee malt flavor up front, with a tame balancing bitterness of spicy hops. Lots of buttery notes in this one, which seemed to subside as it approached room temp. As far as ESBs go, this is average. JRACLOCK (1), Haddonfield, New Jersey, USA does not count Jan 6, 2008 Bottle - was a gift the person did not want. Too bad for him. The aroma was the first significant thing about the beer - very pleasing. This was one of the first bitters I have drunk in a long time and I enjoyed it very much. Looking forward to my next Rogue Younger’s.
