mephisto (1144), Taiwan Mar 17, 2006 one tasty bitter, probably one of the best i’ve had. floral aroma with note of chocolate and currant. the flavor is of sweet malt balanced by a proper amount of hops; it is medium bodied. lethe (168), Stony Brook by way of Cincinnati, New York, USA Mar 16, 2006 Cloudy pour with medium frothy head offers a faintly peppery nose with a bready sweet character. Palate is a bit thin, but was smooth and even. Flavor is malt sweet with a toffee and a nice, dry Golding hops finish. A nice homage of an ESB that doesn’t try too much. nick76 (2634), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 12, 2006 The aroma has toffee, caramel, nuts, yeast, and resin hops. The appearance is red brown with a small head. The flavor has brown sugar, nuts, toffee, toasted malt, and lightly bitter hops. The palate is smooth and buttery. The aftertaste is bitter with caramel. Pretty good. wheninhell (485), louisville, Kentucky, USA Mar 11, 2006 copper color with a white head. aroma of toffee and some roasted nuts. aroma just isnt very hoppy. bitter flavor with quite a bit of sweet nutty toffee. medium body. lively carbonation. finish is fairly bitter but somewhat watery. the sweet malt and the nuttiness seem to be too much in this beer. decent beer just not bitter enough. ruggedman (613), Portland, Maine, USA Mar 10, 2006 Wow this beers is sadly underrated. Pours a nice amber gold. Unfiltered with a little white head. Looks the part of an ESB. Smells a little sweet, when i first poured it i was a little put off by the smell because it was kind of pleasant, but I didnt want it to taste like that. Not to worry, it starts off with a nice bitter citrus hop flavor that matures into a slighly floral bitter, as it goes down you get this really nice kick of caramel at the end. This is a fantastic ESB. Well done rogue. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Mar 5, 2006 From a 22 oz. distinctive Rogue capped brown bomber bottle with a blurb and info about the bitter on the side of bottle. Made a good appearance, poured a semi-hazy, honey hued caramel with a foamy, bubbly topped pale tannish-white head that quickly reduced to a thin bubbly lacing. Had a sweet caramel malty aroma, a touch of honey, citric hoppiness and, of course, a distinctive fruity Pacman yeastiness. Good carbonation and a smooth medium bodied mouth feel, good drinkability. Had a citrus hop bitterness at first, a fruity flavor the blends into the citric flavor, a little herbal hoppiness as well, a background caramel maltiness, some toasted qualities and a dry hoppiness with some dry Pacman flavor in the finish.
KnutAlbert (3101), Oslo, Norway Mar 1, 2006 Younger’s Special Bitter. True to its style, a proper English bitter. A no nonsense bitter. A nice hoppy aftertaste. The proper color, the proper foam. It is nice and refreshing, but it lacks the little extra. I would say it’s a bitter – but not a special. Nejhleader (924), Lemoyne, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 15, 2006 Had the Fat Heads Ale at Fat Heads, which is guess is the same as this, just bottled under a different name. I didn’t think it was all that. Seemed a wee bit thin. Was a good compliment to my food though.
