rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Apr 5, 2004 Slightly buttery, faint hop aroma. Not much of a head. Good solid flavor, earthy hops and butter backed up with a nice heavy mouthfeel. Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Mar 24, 2004 A brownish red appearance with little head. Flavor was slightly bitter with some caramel and oranges. Palate was a little thin. Overall this was pretty good and good representation of an English bitter. Sassy (217), Mullet Capital of the World, Georgia, USA Mar 24, 2004 Brownish-red color; aroma and flavor of grapefruit and malts; nicely hopped. Enjoyable brew. IPAndy (120), minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Mar 22, 2004 Medium malt and hops, but little to none of the citrus from hops (maybe a bit of grapefruit). No head really... Nice color though, medium to dark amber. Gets better as it warms. I had some curry and came back to it and it improved a lot from the warming and the curry mingling. Floral scent/flavor comes forward as it warms. Not one of my favorites from the rogue folks. hershiser2 (902), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Mar 21, 2004 Amber, with a small but fluffy head. Slightly citrus scented, but not overwhelming. A nice, stereotypical ESB flavor- it's above average, but not fantastic. antisnobJP (275), St. Michael, Minnesota, USA Mar 18, 2004 Bottle. Reddish amber classic "bitter" color. Has a homemade stale bread aroma with some floral hops. Creamy white head with very persistent lacing. Taste hits you with sweet caramelly malts and ample hop bitterness. Not too complex-thank god. a little fruity. Umm, sweet Goldings. Straightforward special bitter that is highly drinkable. Nuffield (2718), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Mar 16, 2004 Very mild. Served cold, to be sure--too cold, perhaps. Big head, slightly hazy amber/copper color. This is sympathetic to the bitter style in the English fold, though in a Northwest way. This beer would probably be in the top 20% of English bitters by hoppiness. (on tap at Rogue Ales Public House, Portland) Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Mar 15, 2004 Copper red hazy beer with a sweet caramel malt aroma with lite oranges. Fresh malt with a good balance of british hops (not as floral as their other beer), with a good balance and body. refreshing like breathing moutain air.
