Nose is hoppy and citrusy but there is a faint sweetness as well. The taste is almost pure citrus! Grapefruit and orange seem to make up the bulk of this one. Very faint malts are evident. Finishes with a light bitterness which is surprising considering how bitter the taste is. beerhugger (541), Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 24, 2004 Updated: Oct 1, 2004I had this on tap at the newly opened Rogue Public House in San Francisco when I was at a friend's wedding. This, along with a few other great Rogue moments were among the highlights of the food and drink portion of the trip. Hoppy as you would expect but not the detraction of the other fruit and floral flavours and aromas. Refreshing well-balanced beer that lingers quite nicely. Wish I had brought some home with me but there was only so much room....
Added infoHad this again in the guise of Summit's Wayside Cliffhanger ale (Thanks Len) and still really enjoyed the smooth, hoppy rich brown offering. Nice. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 24, 2004 Nice. Hazy copper in color with a small white head. Lacing present. Aroma is almost whisky-like, sweet and malty. Silky smooth on the palate. Strong yet pleasant hoppy taste, consistent with the better Rogue brews. Overall, very nice. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 24, 2004 Bright, rubyish color, with a faint white head, that slips into a narrow ring. Aroma, sweet, fruity, malty, big cherries, tangerines. Taste: great hoppiness right off, dancing along the tongue, though never too bitter, just enough. Quite malty, smooth, with fruity flavor persistent throughout the drink. Nice, sweet finish, medium body, overall excellently balance. I'm not normally crazy about bitters, but Rogue made one that's nothing but pleasure. I could drink a million of these! Hangover (765), Atlanta, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 23, 2004 Otherwise known as cliffhanger ale, bottled for summits wayside tavern. Check it out if you're around Atlanta. Nose is of of sweet malts, light hops, and a faint floral aroma. Taste is nicely balanced, with a mellow malt presence up front, fading into a hop finish, with a crisp, slightly bitter aftertaste. Clean, refreshing, and very nice. Another well above average offering from Rogue.. GreatStelle (360), Chico, California, USA
