This is Rohrbachís flagship lager. It is a light, well-balanced amber lager with a light malt flavor, and a crisp, clean hop finish.

Some have compared it to sam adams lager. I feel its a little bit more malty with a little bit more after taste. Good.

Pours a deep amber with little to no head, from a growler acquired from Wegmans, Penfield. Notes of caramel and spicy hops in the aroma. Taste is slightly sweet, malty and lightly bitter. This is much better than I expected.

Sample and eventual growler at Railroad St - Looking at the ratings Iím surprised this didnít score higher. I literally got one of the first pours out of the first keg of the most recent batch, couldnít be fresher. This probably made the difference. Wood like a Bock, not too much, and enough malt strength to make me question the lager part. Crystal clear, nice lace, some head.

On tap at the Straathallen Hotel. Not bad. Crisp, refreshing, a bit fruity and overall satisfying and easy to drink. Wont change your life but it goes down smooth.

Light amber pour with off white head and lace. Malt and almost bourbon-barrell aroma. Medium malt with a bit of an off bitter. Thin and foamy not really special but pretty solid.

Draft at ballgame. Served headless. Seemed fairly fresh. Colorful body, highly fizzed and light bodied. Some caramel malts, slender hops. Slightly metallic. Pretty good lager.

Draft at Jineís on Park Ave. in Rochester. Pours clear amber with a thin beige head. Aroma is light caramel and barley. Medium body. Flavor is lightly roasted malt, caramel, toast and the faintest hint of hops. Nice.

Found this one at a local Italian place called Bazilís in Rochester, NY. It reminded me somewhat of a Sam Adamís Boston Lager. It is a clear, reddish amber, with a well balance flavor, allowing you to taste both the hops and the malt at the same time. The same can be said of the aroma.

UPDATED: SEP 18, 2007 Rerate, on tap at WatchaGotCookin in Fairport, NY: Highland Lager is clear, sparkling and amber. The off-white head is soft, tenacious and leaves great lacing. The aroma is fresh and of light grain, caramel and a little roast. Very inviting. The mouth feel is medium-light, pretty watery and grainy or chalky. There is more flavor here than I expected. It is nutty, almost like pistachios. The caramel flavor from the aroma is present in the flavor as well. There is much more of a roasty flavor than I anticipated. There is not really any bitterness to speak of. All of the flavor seems to be from the malt. The aftertaste is nutty. This is a pretty good session lager. [+1 appearance, +2 overall] Original rating from 1 Aug 2007: (Growler from Hegedorns) Highland Lager is a clear and sparkling deep amber lager with a slight off-white ring of a head. The aroma is of fruity wooden hops with dark sweet malt extract. Itís almost smokey. It is medium-light bodied and a little flat. Itís a little chalky but not too bad. Itís lightly bittered, a little resiny, a little metallic. It ends with a sweet snap and leaves the flavor of molasses in its wake. Itís OK for a lager. The flavor is not very focused or prominent. It looks darker than it is.
