Draft at Buffalo Rd. brewpub. Pours brown with a thin off white head. Sweet butterscotch aroma with smoky and earthy notes. Medium body. Flavor is both sweet and smoky with butterscotch and brown sugar notes. One of my favorite Rohrbach brews.

(cask @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Copper in color with a soapy white head. Aroma is very smoky and malty with a lot of earthy notes as well. Flavor is very smoky right at the beginning and carries all the way through. Underneath all the smoke and roasted malts is a lightly sweet malt touch and a quickly disappearing finish. Nothing all that special.

Poured a small head on this one. Reddish when holding it up to the light. Not up to par with some other Irish beers. What is that gritty stuff in there?

Was rather surprised to find this different Irish Ale than the previous one I tried here. This one was quite different than the light fluffy Flaherty’s. The buzzword here is ’malt.’ Little head, but very nice brown with reddish highlights. Low aroma, very high malt palate, gritty.

Lifeless, clear dark amber. No head. Soft, malt aroma of caramel & rye bread. Thin, slightly watery feel. One dimensional malt (caramel) flavour. Dry, mineral finish.
