COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Vanilla Porter is a complex English-style porter that was brewed with a wide variety of specialty malts. Chocolate malt, caramel malt, black malt, and roasted barley are used in this beer to give it an intricate flavor. The vanilla flavoring is an extract that is added after fermentation that gives the beer yet another layer of taste. Porters are considered to be in-between brown ales and stouts, but Vanilla Porter is right on the edge of a stout.

A deep dark porter with a thin moka head. A lightly smoked peated chocolate with light vanilla beans. In mouth, a light bodied porter with lingering burned malt, light acrid points. On tap at brewpub, July 30 2010.

One of my favorite porters of all time. It’s a very odd contradiction, usually beers with this much flavor I would get sick of after a little while. It’s a slightly heavy, chocolately porter with little vanilla aroma. Small to no hops at all. It’s like biting into a rich dark chocolate bar.

Growler from Buffalo Rd - Oily brown with dark tan head. Vanilla and calcohol on nose. Not much on first sip followed by a crack of vanilla. Fades to smoke and cocoa after a few seconds. Hops at end. Nice.

On tap at Rorbachs in Rochester. Poured a nice deep brown color with a thin off white head. Aroma was vanilla and roasted malt. Kind of like creme brulee. Flavor was nice with some vanilla notes and carmel roasted malt undertones. This is what Southern Tier’s Creme Brulee imperial stout was trying to be, but ST cranked it up to 11. This, on the other hand, was drinkable.

Rohrbach Vanilla Porteris a cola colored ale with a small beige head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. It has a dark roast coffee aroma with a note of chocolate. It is thick and creamy, pretty full bodied and smooth with a clean finish. The flavor has notes of vanilla creme, strawberry and chocolate. It’s fruity, slightly sweet, milky and roasty. It’s full flavored with a pretty clean finish. The flavor of roasted coffee lingers.

Draft at the Railroad St. Brewery. Pours near black with a tan head. Sweet roasty aroma, with chocolate, vanilla, and coffee. The flavor is roasty and a bit smoky, with chocolate and vanilla sweetness. Very good.

UPDATED: FEB 19, 2011 I finally had the chance to stop by on my way home form work and it was well worth the trip. I loved the big vanilla taste upfront. Mixed in was some sweet chocolate. I’m glad there was only a small amount of hops. Very warming and enjoyable.
