Hazy golden blonde coloured body with a smallish, single centimetre tall pure white head. Aroma of corn, grain, light yeast, bread, coriander seed and a bit of funky stale sugar. Medium-bodied; Assertive funky, bready, yeastie, corn-y and stale malt dominate this one with a very overtly funky flavour that doesn’t show spice, but does show an odd malt element and little else - some light sugars and a bit of yeast, but that’s it. Aftertaste shows more of the same with some light coriander seed and perhaps a bit of curacao or full oranges, but nothing great. Overall, a pretty bad beer that doesn’t show well and has very funky flavours. Sadly, that said - I’m glad I sampled this and will never have it again, but i’m not happy that I carted this thing across the Atlantic when much better options were easily found, but I am happy that it was just a 25cL bottle. I sampled this 25 cL bottle purchased from Beer Mania in Bruxelles, Belgium on 19-August-2013 for €1,99 sampled at home in Washington on 14-September-2016 after lugging this thing across the pond.

250 ml. bottle @ Bahnhove. BBF 24.01.2014. Bright hazy cartoonish golden, fluffy solid white head. Nose is fluffy citrus, soap, very artificial soapy sweet bubblegum bread & sugar, artificial wheat. Taste is big soap, soapy peach, artificial sweet, bubblegum, sugar, candy, chemical, bit fizzy. Very big soap taste, very artificial sweet sugar, peach, bubblegum, artificial soft drink, chemical & soap qualities start to bother quite quickly. Meh, I expected worse, it wasn’t as bad as I feared but I would call it quite good either.

18/03/2016 - from bottle @ De Cubus, Oudenaarde. Clear yellow beer (more a pilsner like colour) with small white head. Grainy, some yeast, not a lot of spices remarkable, easy drinking, thin. Not great. Thought this was beter years ago.

Bottle @ home. Cloudy yellow, white head. Nose of citrus, orange peel. Sweet with spicy notes (coriander). Refreshing but unbalanced. Tart notes and sweet. Not the best white beer.

19/IX/14 - 25cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ my parents in law’s place - BB: 12/XII/14 (2014-1014)

Little cloudy beige beer, irregular white head, unstable, dissipates quickly, non adhesive. Aroma: bit sweet, malty, some caramel even, lots of coriander, sourish. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: sourish start, bit sugary, orange peel, lemony touch. Aftertaste: sourish, bit lemony, malts, little bitter, coriander, pretty sourish, orange peel. Although not listed as an ingredient, I cannot believe there’s not orange peel in this one. (Also: Belgian law does not force the listing of ALL ingredients, I think malt is the only one that’s legally required to be mentioned on the bottle.)

(Roman Mater Biere Blanche) Bottle 250 ml at home, poured into a tumbler. ABV 5% Pale golden yellow colour on the body, hazy, almost two fingers of white thick head, with good retention. Light lacing on the glass. Sweet aroma, wheat, syrup, very faint lemon. Taste of wheat, perfume, lemon but artificial, light yeast and coriander. Medium thin body, average carbonation. Overall okay, drinkable, nothing special though.

Classic Hoegaarden clone since 1993. Medium thick, snow white, sticky head and cloudy yellow blonde colour; bit soapy and spicy smell, lots of coriander and curaçao, soft wheat sourishness, refreshing with a fluffy mouthfeel, citrus peel coming through nicely. I prefer this over Hoegaarden.
