UPDATED: OCT 7, 2012 Bottled at Rooie Dop tasting session at De Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Black appearance, no head. Absolutely fantastic complex nose, loads of malts, oats, coffee, some chocolate, some hops, even some wood notes. Very smooth yet complex malty flavor, very clear oatmeal presence, bitter but enough other flavors to balance it out. Developing and lasting finish. While this bottle was still quite fresh i’m already very much impressed. Seems like a very suitable candidate for barrel-aging as well. Very, very nice beer. Re-rate: Bottled at home, aged for about half a year. Huge head this time. Coffee and malts even more pronounced, also a bit more alcoholic. This beer definitely benefits from aging a bit. Rating reflects aged sample.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 Bullit (3504) - Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - APR 11, 2012
Bottle from Burg Bieren. Was very curious about how this one would turn out. Black colour, thin brown head. Nose is roasted malts, coffee, oats, cacao, slight sourness. Flavour is roasted malts, coffee, slight hop bitterness upfront, followed by chewy oats and a medium bodied, fairly dry and slightly bitter palate. Fairly bitter and a slightly alcoholic finish. Very enjoyable!

now HERE’s a surprise ! dont know what the hell ’oat’ is , so never tried an ’oat’ stout.. aint it ’haver’ in dutch? anyway, alway thought it wanst my kind of thing, well, and this.. was.. cant realy say this stout has anything i haven’t had yet in a stout, the onley diffrence here is, that this is, to me, a basic rusian imperioal, very well balanced, and the good things in it, come way much more to live here. no coffee ( not a big fan of coffe here folks) no chocolat ( witch this proves to be not a negative thing, as i alway thought) in stead you get a realy heavy, yet drinkable, very nice brew. i’m gonna buy this for sure !
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 77ships (2156) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - AUG 19, 2012
Apparently made in real gypsy style with the new brewer just using De Molen installation and no input from Menno // 33 cl. bottle sampled @ GBF 2012 // dark brown with a tanned head // smell is deliciously sweet, thick malts, chocolate plain and milk, light roast, cocoa, vanilla and some fruits // taste is sweeter side, yummy and surprisingly fruity, actually getting plenty of raspberries in here plus reasonable amount of sweet berries on top, lots of nuts, creamy oatmeal, milk chocolate, malty, toffee, sweeter coffee & that fruitiness // very creamy body // watch out for the new kid on the block
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Fin (6180) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - OCT 2, 2012
Bottle from De Molen Brewery Shop, Bodegraven, Holland, consumed inside ?Frank? (camper) at Camping Het Rieven, Landsmeer, Nr Amsterdam, Tuesday 2nd October 2012 Pours really black with a huge lava like flowing tan head, in fact the head is foamy & immense. This is a stunning stout, it’s rich with heap’s of coffee, chocolate and cinder toffee. Thick in the mouth, smooth, glorious. This for me is as good as any of the big stouts at Borefts in fact it is better than any I tried, superb. I understand that this was brewed at De Molen by a group of experienced home brew enthusiasts under the tutorage of De Molens Head Brewer (Menno?) well done to all concerned. Fantanstic beer, now why didn’t I buy more of these? A8 A5 T9 P4 Ov17 4.3

Bottle acquired via trade with Benzai! Dark onyx pour with an almost chocolate milk consistency. Toasted granola, cocoa, Starbucks, honey-baked biscuit, and molasses all present. Coats the palate well. The alcohol is invisible, definitely not distracting. Truly delicious beer!
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 dEnk (2634) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - MAY 22, 2012
Bottle @ home. Aroma is roasty malt, fresh hops, chocolate and more.
Flavour is very creamy with loads of coffee, roasted malts and a woody ashy note. Great. In the finish more subtle flavours show up, liquorice, mocca, some spicy note. Drank this beer a couple of times now, and every time it’s better. (3x + .1 by now) Great stuff.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Bov (8158) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - NOV 26, 2012
from Erzbierschof - black beer under a hugely foamy creamy beige foam; roasted aroma of cacao and walnuts; some corny tones in the background; full-bodied and pretty thick; some sweetness below; a subtle yet fair carbonation; solidly bitter and quite dry; aftertaste of licorice, chocolate and tar - lot of character for this straightforward beer
