4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, 0.33l. Hazy almost black color with medium frothy light brown head, fair lacing and average sparkling appearance. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and caramel. Taste starts with light sweet but rich roasted malt, follows b coffee and smooth milk chocolate, mild spicy mouthfeel and light bitter finish. Medium body, creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. That’s my coffee substitute...

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pitch black transparent beer with brown highlights and a weak head.
Smell is ash mixed with sourwood, drop and coffee bitterness. Touch of leather and espresso warmth. Roasted almonds, salty. Very subtle smokiness and dark fruit.
Taste is dominated by coffee bitterness with a real coffee taste. Unfortunately a bit too watery making the taste a bit faded. Finish is ashy with a strange sweetish sourness. Almost like burnt bread.
An interesting idea but the balance doesn’t work for me.

Bottle @ home, from DailyDelis.
Pours like oil, no head either... Coffee grind indeed, in nose and taste. Bit bolted on. Chicory. Hmm..

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap. Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate roasted dark malt and coffee aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This is the good brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On draught at Apex. Deep dark brown color. Aroma is strong cold-brewed coffee. Taste is similar, with some roasted malt notes. A very light-bodied coffee porter, yet quite flavorful.

4oz on tap at Liberty’s. Dark brown color. Thin ring of off-white head. Leaves a dot or two of lace. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. Kind of soft, nice chewy texture. Lightly dry finish. Moderate bitter taste, light to moderate sweet, hint of tartness (doesn’t bother me, though). Nice oatmeal, good exotic coffee, some dark fruit mildly spicy berry-like notes. A solid european take on a dark coffee beer. The coffee is what makes this, I’m a sucker for exotic coffee bean. If no coffee, this would be several points lower. But I love the coffee part.

0.33l bottle @ Cask Pub & Kitchen. As good as black looking in the glass this one with a medium sized dark brown head. Looks nice and it definitely smells of, oh .. it smells quite a lot this! Loaded with salty licorice! Roasted coffee and chocolate also here. Quite high on the carbonation with a mid oily mouthfeel. Really impressive amounts of licorice in this and it also has some chocoholic notes with roasted coffee. Lovely baffles as well. Highly enjoyable. Quite high on the carbonation with a mid oily mouthfeel. 09.11.2013
