The city and province of Utrecht has got a great history (and future) of brewing beer. It deserves a beer that shows our appreciation and what more could we do than make this Utrecht Strong Ale. Big hops dominate the aroma and big malts support them in taste. Put your hands up for Utrecht, we love that city!

330ml brown bottle. Caramel brown-orange coloured brew, hazy. Small white cap. Nose has caramel, toffee/sponge candy and grain, sweetish but nice. Taste has toffee malts, lemony hops, grassy notes. Aftertaste has nutty malts, toffee and grass and lemon. Body is medium but carbonation seems quite low. The alcohol seems well integrated, so it’s not very boozy for it’s strength which is a big plus. Overall, this doesn’t quite come together for me.

33cl bottle @ home. Hazy reddish-copper color, medium beige head. Aroma rum, cherry cake, chocolate, caramel in the nose. Massive flavor of licorice, bread, brown sugar, belgian yeast, malty, slightly hoppy, slightly roasty. Very complex. Alcohol is totally hidden of course. Taste light sweetness, medium to heavy bitterness. Extreme full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, long lasting fine bitter finish. Reminds me to a belgain strong ale and an IPA mixture with hardcore aroma power. Very good heavy one.

Pours a cloudy orangy copper with a thin white ring around the glass. Aroma is resin, caramel, alcohol, pine and fruity. Flavour is resin, pine, grapefruit, high bitterness, alcohol, residual sweetness and caramel. Pretty tasty.

Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell. I forget where this one came from but it appeared on the table and glad it did. A damn solid American Strong. Plenty of bright fruits behind the thick and resinous toffee and piney hops. A notable mango and grapefruit focus with a hint of candied sugar which give it some well balanced sweetness. Very good stuff

In fles 33 cl. Mooie donkere kleur. Slappe schuimkop. Eerste smaak beleving was voor mij niet fijn. Proefde brandnetel/citrus . Sorry niet het biertje voor mij. Gootsteen :(

Transparent red-brown beer with no carbonation and a nice foamy head. Smell is sweet orange, peaches and grapefruit. Subtle caramel in the background giving it a rotten fruit feel. Lightly alcoholic. Taste is full bitter sourness with a refreshing finish. The bitterness is fruity, mainly grapefruit peel, but develops into something a bit more coffee-like. Fizzy and warm, with an oily feel to it.
