The city and province of Utrecht has got a great history (and future) of brewing beer. It deserves a beer that shows our appreciation and what more could we do than make this Utrecht Strong Ale. Big hops dominate the aroma and big malts support them in taste. Put your hands up for Utrecht, we love that city!

Bottle to tulip Resin, grapefruit, over ripe tropical fruit, alcohol and pine. Itís a cloudy amber with almost no head and thus no real lacing, but thereís an oily coating instead. Itís loaded with plum up front and as that fades, a black peppery taste comes in along with grapefruit and ending with an indistinct bitterness. Quite enjoyable.

(Drinking date: 16 April 2014) Dark brown/orange/red colour with a small layer of white/beige head. Lovely sweet hoppy aroma, could have been a bit more intense. The taste is really delicious. Bitter, sweet and fruity at the same time. It starts sweet, and it has a bitter aftertaste. The taste is a bit too sweet. You taste the hops all the way through the beer, which I really love. The mouthfeel is perfect. Thick body with a flat to medium carbonation. Overall, this is a really good beer. It is a bit too sweet. But thatís the only negative thing in this beer however. Itís really delicious, and the hops are present all the way through the beer, which is delicious. I am really enjoying this beer, so thatís why I give it the total score of 4.0!

Dark hazy amber body, offwhite head. Aroma has cookie dough, strong alcohol, berries and caramel. Flavour is very doughy, but very hoppy too. Nice one.

330 ml bottle. Bottled on 26/03/13. From dEnk. Bedankt!
Dark reddish murky brown colour with a small creamy sand head. The aroma is quite Barley Wine like... strong sweet malt, pleasant hops and mild bitterness. Strong. The flavour is bitter hops, dry wood, berries, resin, pine, sweetness, strong maltiness and some citric notes. Sticky. Rich. Strong. Quite pleasant surprise.

Bottle from The Bottle Shop Canterbury and drunk at home. Hazy ruby colour with a thick lasting beige head. American hop and strong syrupy malt and alcohol aroma. Spicy strong ale. Some fruit on the aroma. Itís not subtle but warming and rather decent. Some bitterness on the finish. Some tangerine flavour on the finish. Decent. Not amazing, but itís nice enough and the bottle disappeared dead quick.

Bottle, bottled 26/03/13. Pours a deep, brownish amber with an almost non-existent, beige head. Aroma is a lot of caramel, some pine, light ethanol and berries. Taste is a lot of caramel some pine and berries. Light ethanol. Dry due to the ethanol. Not much carbonation, rather light for the ABV. Not that pleasant, but perhaps has lost most of the punch due to being rather old.

330ml brown bottle. Caramel brown-orange coloured brew, hazy. Small white cap. Nose has caramel, toffee/sponge candy and grain, sweetish but nice. Taste has toffee malts, lemony hops, grassy notes. Aftertaste has nutty malts, toffee and grass and lemon. Body is medium but carbonation seems quite low. The alcohol seems well integrated, so itís not very boozy for itís strength which is a big plus. Overall, this doesnít quite come together for me.

33cl bottle @ home. Hazy reddish-copper color, medium beige head. Aroma rum, cherry cake, chocolate, caramel in the nose. Massive flavor of licorice, bread, brown sugar, belgian yeast, malty, slightly hoppy, slightly roasty. Very complex. Alcohol is totally hidden of course. Taste light sweetness, medium to heavy bitterness. Extreme full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, long lasting fine bitter finish. Reminds me to a belgain strong ale and an IPA mixture with hardcore aroma power. Very good heavy one.
