The Rooney family is no stranger to the beer and pub business. Their roots go back to the turn of the 20th century when Dan Rooney opened the family’s first pub on the corner of Corey and General Robinson Streets where Three Rivers Stadium later stood in Pittsburgh,PA. In 1933, the family entered the brewing business in Braddock, PA. Today the family celebrates both its Celtic and Pittsburgh Pride with the next generation of brews starting with Rooney’s Old Irish Style Ale

From the 120z bottle fresh from Penn Brewery direct. Coming from Penn you expect something good and this ale stands on all points. No compromise on ingredients or taste is evident and the results are pleasing on first impression. Pours well with a balanced aroma and a rich foamy head. Perfect coloration on the appearance. Maybe I’m just partial to the spirit of Pittsburgh that permeates this selection, but I’d gladly revisit this tasty beverage more than once with friends who might miss this limited offering.

I had fairly low expectations for this one but it ended up being fairly pleasant. +++ Sampled on draft at D’s in Monroeville this beer poured a dark caramel-brown color with a medium sized foamy beige head that left good lacing. The aroma was sweetish and malty with light fruity hops and a bit of bread. The flavor was semi sweet bread, caramel, nut and wood with undertones of faint vague tangy fruity hops. Surprisingly complex. The finish was long with notes of wood, bread and nut. Medium body. Exceeded expectations.

a delightful Irish style ale with flavors of toast and caramel not too sweet and with a bit of soapy pine hop that with it’s caustic nature adds some body. still smooth this brew has a little fruit in the mix.

This has a deep emphasis on the grains, the taste of the husks are very strong. It's all malt and hardly no hops. A great beer to enjoy ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - 12 oz bottle. Pours a medium copper, slightly sparkling, very slight off-white head. Aroma has some very slight meaty undertones, a touch of cinnamon. Flavor has some peaty qualities, a touch of toffee, some nuttiness, a hint of chewing tobacco. Very flavorful for an Irish Ale. Smooth mouthfeel. Much better than expected.

The aroma is malty with grains, grassy hops, and brown sugar. The appearance is amber with a large head. The taste is like the aroma with a bitter finish. The plate is typical. Overall pretty average.

Bottle. Surprisingly tasty ale. I think I was expecting something subpar and watery, but this was the opposite. I mean, it was nothing to go crazy over, but it impressed me just the same. Toasty cinnamon scent with an amber appearance and foamy head. Medium bodied, sticky textured palate, and a spiced, malt, bitter taste.
