COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special.
The guys at Odell Brewing Co., Fort Collins, Colorado, visited us last year as part of a whistle stop tour of various breweries up and down the country and were kind enough to invite us to have dinner with them that evening. As we sat and ate and drank, we talked about a lot of things, including baseball and cricket, but we mostly talked about beer. Fast forward a few months to the end of last year and we were delighted when Doug Odell, founding brewer of Odell Brewing Co., sent us an email asking if we’d like to brew a beer with him. A question that took a nanosecond to respond to… yes! Several months and various emails later, Doug joined us at the Brewery for a couple of days to finalise the recipe and brew the beer. The Accomplice is a pale ale as prepared for India that’s been brewed using six different varieties of hops, crammed into almost every possible part of the brewing process, to create intense floral and fruit aromas, backed up by a balanced level of bitterness. When we suggested the name to Doug, his response was, “It sounds kinda sinister… I like it!” So, there we have it, The Accomplice is currently fermenting away and will be available in cask for a limited period from the beginning of July. We hope you enjoy drinking it as much as we enjoyed brewing it!

Craft Clerkenwell. Thanks to Frederic for the cellar run. Cheers mate! almost clear gold beer, little white head. Light palate, smooth and slightly dry. Really good hops - juicy orange with good floral notes. Joining the taste party are tropical fruits, lime being most noticable. Adding more complexity is lesser lemon and grape. All flavours very well integrated in this super tasty and drinkable beer!

Cask at The White Horse, London. Clear orange pour with a fine, white head. Ripe orange on the nose with toast, light pine and grass. Medium sweet flavor with plenty of ripe citrus, mild grassy and piney hops. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Fairly resinous on the finish with more pine and ripe orange, along with some grapefruit and melon. It’s decent beer, though not a standout.

6+ Pungent hoppy aroma. Orange zest everywhere.
3 Mid orange, tiny head.
6+ Nice zesty retronasals. Packed full of full hops. Seems like it might be fertilised female hops though as it’s quite pungent and a little soapy.
4 Great balance, huge hops, but not in an offensive way. Biting bitterness.
13 Good hoppy brew. Perhaps a bit one-dimensional.

Bottle. Golden brown with an off white foam. Aromas are toffee and smoky malts with toast and brown sugar. Low floral soapy pine with earthy pear and spiced oranges. Citrus rind with tea and hints of honey. Flavours are sweet tropical fruit with earthy, spicy notes and toffee malts. Toasted with pine bitterness. A nicely balanced beer.

Half pint, hand-pulled cask ale at The Duck & Drake. Faint beige head covering a clear golden-brown coloured body. Spotty lacing. Inviting malt-fruity smell with hints of red oranges. Dark fruits and earthy malts providing a flavour of orange marmalade with underpinning of bitterness. Well bodied. Pleasant (Leeds, 12.07.2012).

Live at The Penguin. Bottle from Beer Gonzo. Big fan of Roosters but this is a disappointment. Clear coppery orange with a patchy white head. Bilious aroma with Southern Comfort, hints of leaf, dried spices; fenugreek, vomit. Hop flavour killed by soggy honeyed malt, US-style. Hints of soapy floral hop, tea, caramel, vomited honey, throat sweets, scented drawer liners and posh beetroot/parsnip crisps fried in sunflower oil. And that’s being generous. It really just tastes of honey and lemon throat sweets. Getting a bit sick of English brewers imitating this cloying US style of D/IPA that smothers all hop flavour and aromatics.

Scopey (6136) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 10, 2012
Cask at White Horse. It pours amber, with a medium foamy white head. The nose is floral, sweaty sock, orange citrus, creaminess, mango and apricot. The taste is pine, floral, resin, orange, citrus pith, faint spice, oily hop, sweaty sock and alcohol warmth, with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Not bad.

Cask @ The White Horse on Parsons Green. The pour’s deep amber color with no head. The nose is lemon and light soured grains. Some hints of malty honeyed bread and and light wood. The taste is much the same, light lemon buttered toast. Bready malts. Not a particularly fruity, hoppy beer on this showing. Light, soft and easy to drink. Overall, pretty decent.

500ml bottle shared with mr_h. Orange amber, decent head. Tropical fruit, pine & resin aroma. Biscuit, grain, tropical & citrus fruit flavour. Hoppy biscuuit & citrus fruit aftertaste. Big tasting golden / pale ale hybrid.
