3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Half pint, hand-pulled cask ale at The Duck & Drake. Faint beige head covering a clear golden-brown coloured body. Spotty lacing. Inviting malt-fruity smell with hints of red oranges. Dark fruits and earthy malts providing a flavour of orange marmalade with underpinning of bitterness. Well bodied. Pleasant (Leeds, 12.07.2012).

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Live at The Penguin. Bottle from Beer Gonzo. Big fan of Roosters but this is a disappointment. Clear coppery orange with a patchy white head. Bilious aroma with Southern Comfort, hints of leaf, dried spices; fenugreek, vomit. Hop flavour killed by soggy honeyed malt, US-style. Hints of soapy floral hop, tea, caramel, vomited honey, throat sweets, scented drawer liners and posh beetroot/parsnip crisps fried in sunflower oil. And that’s being generous. It really just tastes of honey and lemon throat sweets. Getting a bit sick of English brewers imitating this cloying US style of D/IPA that smothers all hop flavour and aromatics.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Tomlinson’s, Inverness
Amber, clear, big frothy white head, some lacing
Aroma of caramel malts, soft caramelised orange, touch floral, hint of citrus, malty aroma, not much citrus hops
Taste - Caramel, some fruity caramelised orange malts, piney hops, grassy bitter hops, rather malty, not really a fan of this
Palate - soft carb, medium body, sweet malts, bitter bit tangy hops. Finish is dry, bitter grassy hop
Overall - Wasn’t enjoying this. The best before date was marked 02/14 suggesting it was bottled 6 months ago? I think it’s too old. Needs a re-rate when fresh.
