COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We hand smoke 60 pounds of of malt over cherry wood soaked in glenlivet, cognac and cherry juice that lends wonderful smoked toffee and cherry notes both to the palate and the nose and a warm bitter sweet finish. With over 1,700 pounds of malt and 65 pounds of hops make this a truly epic ale. The 2006 vintage is 13.5% abv.

Bottle #49 from 2007. Appearance: Pours a quite dark, reddish-brown body with a small, ivory-colored head. Smell: Slightly boozey black cherry aroma with muted notes of malted grain and fine vintage leathers. Taste: Sweetish dark caramel flavor with a splash of two of cherry cordial. Slight perceived bitterness peeks out from around the full flavors. Hints of leather and smoke. Cherryish finish with some tannic qualities to it. Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Somewhat chewy mouthfeel. Drinkability: Definitely a sipper, but a good one. If you canít enjoy this one in front of a warm, cozy fire, at least sample it with the fine company of TheBeerCellar.

Bottle at the after-Dark Lord Day tasting. Thanks to TheBeerCellar.
The pour is a dark ruby with an abundant light tan head. There is a good amount of cherries and bourbon in the nose. Not a lot of other aromas going on here, but the ones that are here are very dense, very pleasing. Just like the aroma, there are a good amount of cherries and a lightly smoky bourbon in the flavour as well. The finish had some slightly dry, bready qualities.
Iím disappointed in my comments for this beer because Iím not able to say much other than "cherries and bourbon," but it is so deliciously balanced yet intense in its flavours.
Much thanks, BeerCellar.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2009 uping it from a bottle from todd, thanks hannont, i like this and iím drunky. 4th Brewery 07-08 Brew Trip with Bikesandbeer. 2006 Vintage on tap. Pours dark red/brown with a thin ring head. Nose is sweet. Taste is very viscous malty and slippery, by far the best thing I had at this place.

Thanks to TBC for bringing this treat and all the guys for signing the bottle for me. Poured a very dark amber with a medium off-white head. The aroma was thick and sweet. With caramel and fruit. Some citrus and alcohol pick up the rear. The flavor was sweet and fruity as well with a mild smokey phenol. Full bodied and fairly warming with a light alcohol pepper on the tongue. The beer also gets one point for the crazy ass bottle.

Another late night cameo appearance by Jersey Matt to KPs gathering with a freakin huge bottle of this beer. A dark amber appearance with a large beige head. Some cherries, caramel, and chocolate in the aroma. Some citrus showing up in the flavor along with more cherries, caramel, nutmeg, and chocolate. A very thick and sweet tasting beer. Definitley a nice one!

Bottle #76 2006 vintage thanks to TheBeerCellar2. Dark reddish brown color. Rich malt aroma. very syrupy texture. Nice citrus hop bitterness. Slight hint of smoke in the finish. HEAVY bodied. A very nice beer, Best Iíve had in a long time! Since when do organic beers taste sooo good and not earthy like mud. I Love Roots Brewing.

Bottle #76 2006 vintage shared by TheBeerCellar2: Pours a barely transparent dark amber mahogany with a full-lacing frothy dark tan head. Aroma of sweet, sticky caramel malt with lots of toasty pale malt and a nice, mild grapefruity hop presence. Body starts fairly full and caramely sweet with a touch of mild smoke and light fruity esters. Nice complexity and smooth caramely malt and fresh hop balance. Despite the big flavor, thereís still a lot of alcoholic warmth and black pepper flavor. A nicely balanced and enjoyable brew.
