Appearance: Murky red brown....iced tea like in every way. Beige frothy 2 finger foam head with loads of retention and lacing. Smell: A mixed bag....tea, tropical fruit, slight, touch of roast malt and even a coffee note!!! Taste: roast malt, butter, caramel, and both citrus as well as floral hops. Mouthfeel: Very thin and lackluster. Especially considering how creamy the crown is. Drinkability: The mouthfeel is the real killer for me here. Not bad....this organic amber tastes like its half way between a regular micro and a cask selection. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 04-19-2009

Roots Organic Brewing Company--Island Red Ale--2008 22 oz. Bottle. 5.70% ABV--62.5 IBU’s. (4.25 / 5.0) Foamy lacy off white dense head. Rich sediment. Mild toasted malty fruit hop floral front. Doughy creamy mild sweet toasted toffee fruit mellow yeast ester Red Ale body. Liquid Bread Mouth Feel. Clean smooth rich hop spice mild earthy crusty satisfying end. Too Foamy. Sampled 5/18/2008. 4 @ $5.00 Each.

Bottle:   Deep copper, nearly brown, HUGE fluffy light beige head, sticky lacing.   Nose has a pale grainy malt aspect to it, but moreso a soft sourness.   I have the feeling this one may be on the way down, possibly the start of an infection.   Its overly foamy me thinks.   Decent malt backing, slightly sour, and very very airy.   Has a slight sweet aspect to it, in addition to it being funky.   Doesn’t come across so much as an organic beer, but one that either is very old or has an infection.   Deserves a re-rate because of it.

Bottle. Pours a murky brown amber color with a medium tan head good lacing. Aroma is very grainy some american hop slips through it, sweet caramel malts linger also. A bit dirty aroma but not bad. Flavor is also dirty tasting with plenty of graininess, some bitter hops and very low flavor hops not great but i will finish the bottle.

"Pours a deep dark red/copper color with a big foamy white head. Aroma of burnt sugar/caramel and malt. Flavor of caramel and citrusy hops. Not a bad tasting beer."

On tap at Roots Pub, Reddish amber with a nice white head. Citrus, floral, malt aroma. Flavor is more malt and some citrus.

Tap@Brewpub. Floral aroma with a hint of grass. Hazy, amber colour, off-white head, good lace. Pretty bitter, light sweet, light fruity. But one dimensional on the hops but still very nice. But Alt? No way!

On tap at KLCC Microbrew Festival and again at the Roots brewpub. Deep amber red with a huge white head that didn’t want to die down. Aroma heavy on caramel with some light floral and citrus hops. Flavor is also very caramel malty with the citrus hops a little more out front than in the aroma and the floral a little more subdued. Had a very bitter finish. Not my kind of thing this one.
