Commercial Description:
Dark brown and virtually opaque, twelve malt styles and the addition of oatmeal make this beer complex, yet smooth. Coffee, chocolate, and roast malt dominate the overall flavor. Horizon Hops are used for bittering and Willamette hops finish it off with a nice pleasant and slightly spicy flavor.

Editor's Note: "RAM" = Ragged (sometimes Rugged) Ass Miner.

On tap @ Rosies poured a translucent brownish black with a small lasting brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee with a smooth lingering roasty finish.

Draught at brewpub. Pours black with a small, frothy, light brown head, lasting, fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, molasses, coffee), light hops (flowers), average yeast (leather) with notes of licorice. Medium bodied, oily texture, flat carbonation and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness and acidity, moderate bitterness.

[Colorado Road Trip – 2006] This was a dark black stout with a great head. Loved the aromas and the flavor was not bad but it seemed as though it was watered down. It was weak and did not have a huge thick feeling. I was a tad disappointed with the lack of deep malt flavor and missed the chocolate and coffee flavors which should be in the beer. I wish I could give a high score but I am true to my beer. It needs more work on recipe.

After seeing my notetaking, my hosts insisted I try this and the 100 Mile Wheat; The stout had a nice visual appeal ... pitch black with a nice brown head. Big thick consistency and roasty character, this is a good stout.
