This beer is complex. Lots of malt (roastet), hops. Great notes of berries and coffee. Some Liqourice in the after taste. Still a young beer, and i look forward to taste it in some years.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 yngwie (10760) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - MAR 31, 2008
UPDATED: NOV 24, 2009 Bottle 331/490, edition 2007. It pours an almost flat, unclear, brown body, with some beige bubbles on top. There’s some yeast sediments as well. It has a heavy maltyness in the aroma, with enough hops to give it some balance. There’s also a caramel sweetness, a vinous alcohol touch, a slight oxidation, a note of salty licorice, dried fruits, tobacco leaf box (the pallet boxes tobacco leaves are transported in), a bready touch and some citrus. As I enjoy the aroma, it turns out it’s not as balanced as the first impression suggested, it’s sure on the malty side. In the mouth it’s thick, oily and warming, but in a strange way, it still feels rather thin. There’s flavors of fortified wine, citrusy and piney hops, dark sugars, dried fruits, alcohol, some caramel and tobacco, some oxidation and bitterness. The bitterness comes stronger towards the finish, where it overpowers the sweetness the malt is providing. The alcohol also lasts for a while, which in combination with the sweetness and bitterness is giving me a relaxed feeling. For the first time in my RB-history, I was thinking of giving an overall score of fifteen to a beer I gave eight on aroma and flavor. Even though it smells very good, and tastes very good, there’s something missing. Anyhow, sixteen it got, and it deserves it. I am really starting to grow fond of Roskilde Øl, as they make some fine beer, this one included. Rating: 8-3-8-4-16-3.9. (080331)
Bottle 327/490, edition 2007. An oily pour results in a headless, clear, brown beer. Dried fruits, hints of licorice, some alcohol, dark sugar, a little touch of roasted malts, some tobacco, dark caramel and a faint citrusy note on the nose, all just layering up in a very pleasant way. Some signs of oxidation shows up, but I noticed that more than 15 months ago too, so it definately hasn’t deteriorated. It’s full-bodied and sweet in the mouth, it’s low carbonation gives an oily feeling, but the warmth smoothens things out. Dried fruits, raisins mostly, and caramel drives the flavor, with loads of flavors lying underneath. Licorice, bread, citrus, alcohol, tobacco, fortified wine, a hint of roasted malts and probably loads of other things I can’t focus on right now. It’s really complex and tasteful right now, making me look forward to have my last bottle some day. 091124

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2011 Tried a 2007 bottle in August 2011. Very lovely. Lots of raisins, plums, still this dark tye bread character. Mildly warming, lots of chocolate, subdued bitterness, good dryness. Reminds me a bit of Ølfabrikken Barley Wine. Lovely. 8/4/9/4/16 = 4.1
Bottle @ Kolding Ølmesse. Pours a muddy greyish brown with no head. Aroma is thick with rye bread, weak lemons, hops and dried dark fruits. Very low carbonation, rather oily mouthfeel. Great flavours, very balanced sweetness, rather chewy malts, good subdued chocolate and a good hops profile. Looks poor, smells okay, tastes great. 6/2/8/4/16 = 3.6

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Maria (9569) - Thisted, DENMARK - MAR 22, 2008
Dark mahogany with a beautiful red hue and a weak ring of foam along the sides of the glass. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, sweetness, dark, dried fruit and the mouthfeel is nice and oily. The flavour has sweetness, roasted malt, prunes, raisins and other dried fruits, citrus and the finish has a dry, roasted bitterness. Let’s face it, the American brewers make superb Barley Wines, but IMO this is a damn nice Danish specimen!

330 ml bottle. Dark brown. Excellent complex sweet caramel aroma. The alcohol is quite prominent. Chocolate flavours. There is quite a bit of dark malts here, and there is a little acidic dark roaste malts. I love the initial caramel. Excellent beer.

Sweet and vinous flavour of caramel, dried fruits and tobacco with notes of hops.
Hoppy finish.
Well hidden alcohol.
Quite nice for a danish barley wine -reminds me og Great Divide Old Ruffian, though this one is less sweet, alcoholic and hoppy.
