3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Courtesy dsnowden. Thick, syrupy looking, purple grape juice color. Smooth, glassy finish. Thick legs coat the glass and take eons to return to the body. The aroma is beautiful and sweet, showing fresh blackberries, grape jam, honey, and mild vinous fruits. The flavor is intensely sweet, with sweet blackberries and tart raspberries filling the mouth with fresh, fruit flavor. Thick, full body that coats the mouth completely. Finishes slick and clean. Awesome dessert beverage.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
(375ml bottle) Seems like this mead gets around. Pours a deep grape-drink coloured body with a slightly oily leg. Nose of blackberry, seeds, honey and Welch’s grape concentrate. Strong syrup flavour with a mild port wine tinge, too sweet for solely honey and too berry for anybody to truly adore. A brew for rich Japanese tourists to gloat about.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Oakes and Poperinge saved me a few ounces from their tasting. Aroma of alcohol, blackberry and honey. Scent of blackberry wine. Thick dark purple colour. Flavour is sugar cube sweet. Blackberry liqueur-like. Definitely a sipper. Drink in small quantities or pour on pancakes or ice cream.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Deep purple colour. My mouth was still purple the next morning. Sweet, syrupy blackcurrant character. Very simple, just fruit syrup and hints of alcohol coming in late.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle (375ml). Shared with GregClow and the mysterious Ms. "S", GregClow’s bottle. This is NICE stuff. Poured deep purple/berry-red, very thick looking, no head. Tart cassis berry juice and plenty of sugar in the aroma. Taste is thick and juicy, starts tart, finishes syrupy-sweet - this is very nice, in small amounts - a sweet cordial.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
375 ml bottle. Dark burgundy colour, still. Very fruity grape/blackberry aroma. Very sweet, fruity flavour, but in a sugar added kind of way. Full bodied and syrupy. Just didn’t get into this one.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Dark purple-black headless body. Fruity aroma of berries and dark grapes. Very sweet flavour, fruity berries camouflage high octane alcohol sneaking by underneath. You are aware of its passing only after the fact. Pleasant, it is a touch simplistic and overly sweet, risking diabetic inducement at times. Syrupy medium palate coats the glass. Quite pleasant but a bit too sweet to enjoy in more than a small quantity.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the winery. Pours a dark ruby-purple colour with a very still body. Fresh & juicy aroma of berries and dark honey with hints of almond and spice. Smooth, syrupy mouthfeel. Flavour is very fruity, but the tartness of the berries balances the sweetness of the honey very well, and both flavours compliment the dry alcohol heat that comes through in the finish. I’m pretty unfamiliar with meads, so I can’t say if this fits the style well, but I can say that I enjoyed it quite a bit.
