Wheat is an important and typical flavor carrier in this type of beer. As with all other beers we also work at Rothaus Hefeweizen with a slightly higher original gravity of 12.5%.

In addition to the fine hop bitterness (13 bitter units), Rothaus Hefeweizen is typical of the variety, with another important flavor component, the yeast. In Hefeweizen the yeast is not mixed, but a top-fermenting yeast is used. Unlike our other beers, it comes with unfiltered wheat beer bottling.

Ingredients: water, wheat malt, barley malt, hops, hop extract, yeast.

Bottle. Very fruity (banana) and very sweet, moderate yeasty. Large white creamy head, cloudy yellow-orange body. Light sweet, rather short duration. Dry, light body, lively carbonation. Nice and refreshing Hefeweizen.

pours beautifuly, darker than expected and hazy. Killer head, nose of fresh baked fruit bread. The yeast makes this beer giving it flavor carbonation and a great head. Refreshing and wonderfull.

Bottle 33cl. Typical High fermentation yeast, a little bit similar to trappist yeast taste, highly carbonated, white very stable foam, quite complex in taste, good soft water used for the brew. I like this Hefeweizen.

The bottle looks not too bad. The beer in the glass also. But it tastes terrible. Much too dry for a hefeweizen, it should be much more fruity. Not a good beer.

Embrouille (2831) - SWITZERLAND - NOV 7, 2007
Bottled 33cl. It pours a beautiful hazy orange beer with a big foamy white head. The nose is of nasturcium, dominating banana and a hint of cloves. Slightly milky. Some peanuts and marzipan too - A very interesting aroma. The taste is soapy. Some vinegar-like elements. Cloying. Rahter yeasty and very dry. Grainy. The finish is dry and yeasty.

Yellow-orange color. Has a huge, white head, mostly lasting. Fine spicy aroma, coriander and ginger. Flavor starts sweet, esters, finish is mostly watery.

Dark yellow colored, big yellow head. Nice fruits, still surprisingly hopped bitter aroma. Mild banana also there. Medium bodied. Flavor is even better with strong banana and spices, yeast also with good weizen character and mild caramel. Complex brew.
