Wheat is an important and typical flavor carrier in this type of beer. As with all other beers we also work at Rothaus Hefeweizen with a slightly higher original gravity of 12.5%.

In addition to the fine hop bitterness (13 bitter units), Rothaus Hefeweizen is typical of the variety, with another important flavor component, the yeast. In Hefeweizen the yeast is not mixed, but a top-fermenting yeast is used. Unlike our other beers, it comes with unfiltered wheat beer bottling.

Ingredients: water, wheat malt, barley malt, hops, hop extract, yeast.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2015 Hazy dark orange color with white head. Aroma has nice banana and cloves. Taste is grainy, slightly sweet, with banana and pear notes. Body is really smooth and the carbonation is just right for my taste. Really good hefeweizen, one of the best I had recently.

Keg at the Bell, Waltham St Lawrence. Always available here, but I’ve never tried it before as there is usually something more interesting available on the handpumps. A bright straw pour with a ring of white head; grainy aroma with a slight sourness; smooth wheaty body with a satisfying weight, and a touch of banana and clove; then lightly bitter with some pleasant biscuity spice to finish.
