Germany Bottle 198 yen from Kaldi Coffee. 5.1% Drunk on the train to Kinosaki. It pours an incredibly pale gold that reminds me of a light cider. The aroma is grassy, hay with a touch of zest. The body is light but somewhat oily. The taste is grainy, a bit rough & has a slight sweetness somewhat like a kind of chemical sweetener used in candies. Looking at the German label reveals it is made with hop extract & hops. The first taste is that of a decent pils but then it falls apart. The coolest thing about this beer is the funky old school label.

Bottle from Kaldi Coffee at AEON Dainichi Mall in Moriguchi. Grainy nose, some grass and very light hopping. Light straw color, small head. Gentle, sweet initial / mid has tiny bitterring / clean dry finish. Thin-medium body, soft carbonation. Pretty good, light pils character, smooth and dry.

Bottle from Rewe Frankfurt drunk on the train to Bamberg. Can’t believe I have never had this before. I am sure I have seen this in the UK mind you it will be fresher and cheaper here. Gold clear lasting white head. It’s an ok German pils some decent lemon noble hop bite on the finish. It’s got a bit more noble ho pthan the other bottled beer I have had today. That lovely perfumed essence on the finish. Altogether a classier beef with better ingredients. I liked it. I mean actively liked it. Good.

uckelman (194) - Baden-Württemberg, GERMANY - JAN 8, 2014
Pours clear, pale yellow (similar in color to darker white wines). Hardly any head. Grassy, slightly skunky aroma on the first whiff. Flavor also has a lot of grass. Light body. Crisp finish. Not a lot going on here.

Pale golden, the color of urine. Aroma of hay and grass. Strong round grain flavors, not much carbonation, bitter on the end. Peppy palate that ends in strong hoppy overnotes.

A very light-yellow, almost white pilsener with a firm layer of foam. Not much aroma, just a few faint hop smells. It taste semi-bitter on the back of the tongue, but this rapidly devolves. Een enorm lichtgelig, tegen het witte aan pils met de bekende witte kraag. Weinig aroma te bekennen. Slechts lichte hopgeuren. De smaak is half bitter achter op de tong, maar dit vervliegt snel weer.

Tannenzäpfle pours clear pale golden; the white head is big, consists of big bubbles, and sticks around for a fairly long while. The malt is stronger on the nose than one would expect from a pilsner and has grainy and savory notes and a hint of corn, while the hops are orthodox German pilsner style, i.e. noble, delicate, mildly herbal, and faintly floral. The malt is much more muted on the palate than in the nose. The mid-palate is largely dominated by the straightforward, snappy hops; initially, it came across as faintly skunky, but this impression was gone by the time I took the second mouthful. The bitterness in the finish is pleasantly dry and focused. The medium-fizzy carbonation is refreshing. The straightforward, clean, and palate-cleansing characters will allow this beer to accompany virtually any food. Solid.
