On tap at the brewery. It pours a dark red color with almost no head. The aroma is cherry, wood and bourbon. The flavor has vanilla, wood and cherry in that order. Slick mouthfeel with a spicy woody finish. Tasty.

"Had this at a pub and at the fest. Fairly basic for a BA barleywine, but pretty dang good too. The aroma is heavily whiskey without being too much. The flavor lets a little more of the beer come through as well, fruity, but not overly complex. Solid."

Pour is a tan with a large tan head. Aroma is of the barrel with some notes of vanilla and bourbon. Flavor is bourbon, a big dose of caramel malt and some whiskey burn of alcohol. Finish leaves some of that burning on the tongue with some almost spicy rye and a warming in the chest. This is all about this bourbon barrel it was aged in. Very solidly done as the bourbon is there but you still get a nice sweet and heavy malt.

Very small, lacy head. The malt allows for the most delicious caramel aroma. Definitely heavily boozy at times, but ultimately a smooth, slightly sweet, easy to drink American ale. Very good.

Draught at the Tasting Room. Deep amber/mahogany beer with a nice lasting beige/brownish head. Malty caramel and figs aroma, prunes, grapes, raisins, vanilla, toffee, some apricot. Fruity caramel flavor, licorice, apricot, toffee, grapes, plums, vinous, some warming alcohol. Huge and drinkable beer.

Bottle courtesy of my friend Noel. Amber pour with a short tan head. Aroma is strong vanilla, caramel, bourbon notes and sweet malt. Taste is big vanilla, caramel, toasted coconut, sweet malt and booze. Body is medium with a soft bubbly carbonation. Lots of stickiness and boozy warmth. Finishes with more vanilla, caramel, booze, light coconut and toasted dark bread.

Tap at Toronado SD thanks richiesd. Clear tea amber, weak white foam. Nose is hoppy red ale, sharper pine, fresh poundcake. Taste is harsher paper, sticky sweet, mild caramel, big hoppy spice bite.

You could smell the Barrel and Bourbon a bit once poured. For me, it had a flavor of vanilla. This would have been better had it let it aged a bit and mellowed out. I felt that the bourbon had a bit of a strong aroma and flavor which I love, but it wasn’t balanced with the Ale. If you’re able to find one, I’d say cellar it and try it in a year or two....I bet it’ll be fantastic!

Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Poured a medium brown and created thick cushion of light beige foam head. Aroma is rich and robust with a boozy whiff of alcohol that has true traces of the bourbon barrels while also having a faint nose of maple syrup. As for the drink, heavy dosages of sweetness and alcohol dominate this beer and actually seems as though the alcohol content was higher than it actually is. This American strong ale went beast mode as soon as they barrel aged it and that whiskey leaked into the beer’s DNA. This is a highly lethal beer.
