You could smell the Barrel and Bourbon a bit once poured. For me, it had a flavor of vanilla. This would have been better had it let it aged a bit and mellowed out. I felt that the bourbon had a bit of a strong aroma and flavor which I love, but it wasnít balanced with the Ale. If youíre able to find one, Iíd say cellar it and try it in a year or two....I bet itíll be fantastic!

SDalkoholic (2331) - Linda Vista, California, USA - SEP 25, 2013
Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Poured a medium brown and created thick cushion of light beige foam head. Aroma is rich and robust with a boozy whiff of alcohol that has true traces of the bourbon barrels while also having a faint nose of maple syrup. As for the drink, heavy dosages of sweetness and alcohol dominate this beer and actually seems as though the alcohol content was higher than it actually is. This American strong ale went beast mode as soon as they barrel aged it and that whiskey leaked into the beerís DNA. This is a highly lethal beer.

Bottle shared with Jcwattsrugger. Pours dark amber with white head. Nose and taste of bourbon, oak, vanilla, orange candy and caramel toffee. Medium body. Barrel treatment really works on this beer.

Hophead22 (2879) - Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA - APR 21, 2013
22oz bottle. Rating #14. Dark reddish/brown pour with a small off white head. Sweet and a little toasty, picking up a decent amount of vanilla and bourbon. Similar taste with a more pronounced hop character, more vanilla and a little heat. (2703)

Draft @ the brewery. Pours an amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty bourbon caramel and vanilla aroma. Sweetish malty bourbon vanilla and caramel flavor. Has a sweetish malty bourbon and vanilla finish.

Ibrew2or3 (8059) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - APR 13, 2013
22oz bomber pours crystal clear amber with copper hues and supporting a tan head of foam. The aroma is full up sweet smooth bourbon booze and maybe some vanilla and wafer thin like beer dark fruity esters. The taste is similar where I get almost nothing but sweet vanilla and bourbon booze. At least the bourbon booze note is pretty smooth since it is by far the dominant flavor component. What bits of beer Iím getting are well off in the background. The beer notes seem to be cherry and prune with a wafer thin smattering of vague pine like hoppiness. Man, this has had way too much barrel time for my taste. Why craft a beer and then allow it to get smothered by barrel notes? I donít get it.

BOLTZ7555 (3014) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - APR 6, 2013
Rose colored hue with a small eggshell cap. Bourbon, hint of wood, loads of vanilla, toffee, caramel, and honey-baked biscuit. Nothing terribly distinguishable and a little thin. The alcohol was noticeable but not overly distracting. The most telling sign: I wouldnít buy this again. Meh.

beerbastard (841) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - APR 5, 2013
22oz. bottle, pours reddish brown with a small head. The nose starts out with malts pursuing the bourbons and vanillas that are well blended together. Has a rich palate. Full flavors that start with hot booze followed by malts, and vanillas. The hops show up at the back now, bringing in the balance thatís needed. Finishes with dryness and heat. However this is a pricey beer, over $17.00.

Bottle. Clear dark red with a fizzy tan head. Caramel, molasses, sweet cereal grain, and mellow bourbon aroma and taste with a lightly bitter and oaky vanilla finish. Silky full bodied citrusy palate.
