3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Amber colored pour with an off-white head. Vanilla and oak up front with a nice dark fruit sweetness. Mild charred oak note, caramel, raisin, and very faint candied citrus. The flavor has a lot of barrel notes, particularly charred oak, bourbon, and vanilla. Good caramel and dark fruit sweetness, too, but a bit on the watery side.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Always good to be the first. Bomber from Bine & Vine. Pours darkly ruddy copper with a good beige creamy/foamy head. Light bourbon/vanilla aroma, but there’s some heavy roast malt too. Med + body. Flavor is heavy caramel, hint of chocolate, fairly heavy bourbon/vanilla, and some hop bitter. Hard to pick the hop. This is really excellent. The barrel aging was exquisitely timed. The heat isn’t really anything. It’s something that yearns to be barley wine, but it lacks the malt to get there. Good thing that. This is really delicious ale.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz bomber pours crystal clear amber with copper hues and supporting a tan head of foam. The aroma is full up sweet smooth bourbon booze and maybe some vanilla and wafer thin like beer dark fruity esters. The taste is similar where I get almost nothing but sweet vanilla and bourbon booze. At least the bourbon booze note is pretty smooth since it is by far the dominant flavor component. What bits of beer I’m getting are well off in the background. The beer notes seem to be cherry and prune with a wafer thin smattering of vague pine like hoppiness. Man, this has had way too much barrel time for my taste. Why craft a beer and then allow it to get smothered by barrel notes? I don’t get it.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
"Had this at a pub and at the fest. Fairly basic for a BA barleywine, but pretty dang good too. The aroma is heavily whiskey without being too much. The flavor lets a little more of the beer come through as well, fruity, but not overly complex. Solid."
