Our Kölsch style beer is a golden-blonde ale that is our version of Cologne's native style. Soft, subtle maltiness and a clean finish make it a great thirst-quencher. Kölsch pairs well with spicy foods, or by itself. Enjoy with friends and in good health. Round Barn beer is bottle conditioned, decant into a pint glass before drinking for the best taste experience.

12oz bottle, thanks to robotopera for sharing (he got it from Wine & Cheese in Manitou Beach. Pours a hazy orange gold color. Finger of off-white head. Kind of darker than your typical kolsch. Up front, I can tell it’s off. Kind of a soft, slightly stronger carbonation. Slight musty metallic flavor. Sort of tart taste. I’m thinking this is an old bottle with a brettanomyces infection. Mild breadiness, some citrus aroma, light peppery hop. This might have been a solid kolsch fresh, I’m sensing, but right now it’s kind of a weird mess. Not bad, but meh with the flaws. Unfortunate, because it seems like theirs a solid kolsch under there. Awesome grungey label, though.

UPDATED: NOV 9, 2014 Bottle: Lightly muddled golden-amber body with a frothy, gray-ish tinted head that fades quickly. Aroma of fresh grain, earthy grass, a hint of lemon zest, & a touch of yeast-like ester spiciness in the back-end. Aroma is fairly mild, taste is even milder. Faint bread, some clumpy yeast, a touch of grass, & again, some faintly spicy ester notes that you’d typically expect from things like Belgian or hefe yeast. Hard to pinpoint exactly what’s going on. Smooth, almost creamy mouth feel with a borderline dry finish. Not bad, but not eminently "Kölsch" & perhaps a little boring, even given the typically tame style.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 1/29/2014. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy bright gold color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, toast, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, toast, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, toast, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and robustness of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice kolsch style! All around good balance and robustness of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

From a bottle. Typical Kolsh appearance and aroma, maybe a bit on the coppery side of typical. Flavor is well balanced, noticeable hoppiness, crisp well defined malts, and very clean finish. An excellently executed Kolsch.

Bottle, this beer had a hazy pour of orange and yellow and made a two to three finger white head that recedes to a thick cover, the glass had a strong center flow of bubbles, it left nice lacing on the sides of the glass, there was a thin film of sediment on the bottom of the bottle, this beer had aromas of orange, pear and citrus, some bread, faint hops, light malt and malt sweetness, it smelled fruity for a kolsch beer, I enjoyed the aroma, it was more fruity than any kolsch previously sampled, there were light flavors of malt, fruit and malt sweetness, it had a carbonation bite, the mouth feel was light and creamy with tons of carbonation, way over carbonated, the aroma was very fruity for a kolsch beer, it did not smell bad but having so much carbonation made it hard to really enjoy the taste of this beer, less bubbles would help significantly, I will try another bottle to see if the carbonation is better.

Weak taste, cloudy yellow appearance, almost oily feel on my tongue, unpleasant smell. This beer offers little reason to finish the bottle and no reason to get a second.

12 oz. bottle. Bright golden pour with a thin white head. Aroma of floral notes and grain. Flavor is rich, floral, moderate bitterness. Light bodied, nice carbonation. Finishes on a floral note. Nothing incredibly special, but a solid example of a kolsch

Pours a hazy sunny golden with a rocky off-white head. Nose involves light spice, biscuit malts, touches of fruit. Light sweetness, light bitterness. Soft, creamy, light-medium body, with a mild finish. Easy drinking, but not much to it.

Bottle: The aroma consists of light citrus/orange, faint grain, and a hint of grass. It pours a mostly transparent golden-orange with a touch of haze from some very fine sediment. It has a one finger yellow-tinged off-white head that settles fairly quickly to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring. There is some thin webbing left behind on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with light-moderate citrus notes. It finishes lightly grassy with a touch of floral notes. It’s light bodied with light-moderate carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel. Overall, it’s probably not something most will get excited for, but I think it’s pretty solid and would be a good summer thirst quencher.
