2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Sampled from a bottle,
this ale had a dark orange hazy pour and presented a huge white head that was rocky and had some hills here and there, that was from too much carbonation,
the nose had aromas of light toasted malt with floral and grass hops, some orange and lemon fruit, wood notes, faint bread, and a little bread and fruit sweetness,
it had flavors of light toasted malt with citrus hops, some light orange fruit, and a little sweetness,
the finish had a light hop bitterness and a good bit of carbonation that gave a bite on the tongue,
there was a little off-ness in the flavor and this beer could have been infected or the over carbonation gave this beer a bite that was unflattering or both,
the mouth feel was light and very fizzy, it had lots of carbonation that was a bit much,
unfortunately, this beer suffers from too much carbonation and was not enjoyed, I had a little trouble finishing this beer, I will try a bottle at a latter date to see if it brewed properly.

Pours a hazy darker gold with a booming eggshell head that mercifully settles down eventually and leaves some soapy, foamy lace. Nose involves toasted oak, vanilla, butter, some spice, but like pie spices, not hop spices, perhaps some overripe fruit, some dusty stuff. Fairly sweet, fairly more bitter. Medium toward full bodied, somewhat oily and slippery, fair action, finishing dry and toasty. Not a bad brew, though the buttery-ness bothers me. I get it, but I donít like it. Iíve had other oaked IPAs I enjoyed more. This to me is more oak beer than hop beer.

Too bad this beer missed it with the carbonation. Great oak flavor, but goes away bubbling in my mouth.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Rated on 12-27-2010. This bottled beer has a medium sized semi-fizzy off-white head that mostly diminishes, golden transparent body, fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and a fair amount of lacing. The aromas are malt, earthy, pine, citrus, and grapefruit hops. The taste is lightly bitter, malty, citrus and pine hops. This beer has a dry finish. The mouth feel is lively and somewhat aggressive. This beer is light-medium bodied. Overall, this beer is not overly hoppy or overly bitter tasting which is nice for us that are not hop heads.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2014 Wood actually is the most dominant part of this beer. From the slight smell to the great wood taste, this beer is intriguing. Great to have one beer at a time.

The Round Barn Oaked IPA pours a tangerine yellowish orange with a large foamy off-white head that lasts far too long and appears to be greatly over-carbonated. The aroma is citrus mostly. The flavor is citrus and the wood is noticeable. Overall this beer is below average.

12oz bottle, thanks to FlandersNed. No date found on bottle. Pours a totally hazy orange golden gradient. Big airy rocky white head, so big I have to pause to pour the rest of the bottle. Smooth, crisp, kind of soft, sharp carbonation, with a more dry finish. Tastes possibly infected. Light tart, and big active carbonation and head hint at that. Doesnít ruin the beer, though. If itís going to be old, might as well be infected, I guess. Bigger body. Moderate bitter taste, light tart. Kind of a soapy, lemony, citrusy hop aroma. Donít get much oak here. Seems kind of unnaturally bright in the aroma (from infection). Overall, just OK at best. A beer that has gone infected but not totally awful, still kind of works with some bitter citrusy hops combined with citrusy funky sour notes, and some tannic. Whatever about this accidental, probably oldish combo, though. Iíd rather try beers fresh, as they are intended. Had this brewery dated their bottles, Iíd have a lot more insight as to just where this beer was at. Please, every brewery, date your products (if you care about peopleís opinions)

12 ounce bottle poured a copper color with a Romaís of citrus, oak, wood, and some light bitterness. Flavors are light citrus followed by some oak in the aftertaste. Not as good as CCB white oak, but still a very solid IPA aged on wood. Kudos to these guys, would love to try more beer from them.

Bottle thanks to mikem409. Loud hiss upon opening. Pours a hazy orange. Nose of fresh cut white wood and hops. Citrus like hops. Flavor is a harsh woodiness up front. Tastes like licking a fir. Piney. But not in an overly pleasant way like simcoe hops. Not a huge fan.
