A sour ale brewed in the tradition of the Weisse beers brewed in Berlin. We use pilsner, wheat and rye malts in the grist and allow it to naturally ferment before adding lactobacillus and brettanomyces. Crisp, tart and dry this beer can be consumed young, or aged for several years.

Aroma of white wine, sweet grapes. Flavor is sour - not over the top, but certainly a big part of the beer. Dry lemon, yeasty esters, pleasant and refreshing. No head, cloudy lemonade in appearance.

12 oz bottle, mine says 4.0% abv. Nose very tart and really sour, huge on lacto with a little (read: very mild) funk, horseblanket with a bit of stale air. Pours very light, very pale yellow with a little haze and no head. Taste strongly sour, some light pucker and even acid burn, but not too extreme (but probably still too much for the average drinker). Again, lots of lacto, more evident in texture than taste. Carbonation a bit lighter than expected but it’s a fine level with the tang/acidity. Some lemony and citric character, actually pretty clean for something that’s been intentionally soured, dry, with none of the funk I caught on de-crowning -- this is lacto-dominant for sure, and pretty good for style, wondering if there’s much left for the Brett to take on. Refreshing with a strong bite, probably too intense for a daily sour but brought a smile to my face.

I wonder if there’s been a recipe change, or they’ve just gotten the hang of it, or if several previous raters just had a negative experience with an off-batch, because this is a BW I would absolutely recommend.

another reviewer said it best: filthy beer with tons of fermentation flaws and infections. smells like bile and Parmesan cheese wrapped in a sweaty masturbation-sock. fecal aromas, raw lactic acid sourness, like it was poured directly into the bottle. looked decent, but the aromas are so off-putting I refuse to put it into my mouth, so mouthfeel and taste get automatic 1’s. This is obviously not what they were hoping, and I know they have produced drinkable batches of this, but it’s a loaded gun man. every other batch is like gulping down Parmesan cheese vomit.

12 ounce bottle, poured a light cloudy yellow color with aromas of wheat, hay and some lemon. Flavors were the same with a light lactose and sour finish. Light and refreshing this was a nice surprise.

On tap at the Iron Abbey - Horsham, PA. Sweaty, foot-like aroma, with butyric acid and lots of enterobacteria. Filthy. Flavors are coarsely sour, loaded horse manure and really rough lacto products. Insanely sour, to the point of undrinkability. Full of fermentation flaws. Rough stuff.

Sampled at GABF 2013. Light, refreshing Berliner with a nice sour bite. Tart citrus fruits and wheat malts round things out. Not too complex.

This one poured a very light yellow almost white color with a white head. Aroma was of lemons, grassy and hay. Flavor was fairly tart, mainly lemon and grain. Simple but refreshing.

On tap at Iron Abbey. Opaque/cloudy straw color with thin white head. Aromas of lemon, pear, horse blanket, earth. Moderately bitter and sweet. Thin, crisp body.

Bottle thanks to GT. Hazy light straw pour with average white head. Aromas of pickles, plastic, wheat, light lemon. The palate is tart with flavors of green apple, salt, faint wheat, somewhat harsh sour. Interesting.

Bottle shared by GT. We’ve got a gusher...hazy straw pour with a white head. Smells like bleach. Blech. Grass, straw, popcorn, and green apple. Lemon juice tartness. Flavor is solventy and bitter. Tart lemon juice, grass, and popcorn. Green apple and some plastic. Not enjoyable.
