A tawny colored bourbon barrel aged old ale with aromas and flavors of vanilla, oak ,caramel, citrus, cocoa powder and warming alcohol. Carbonation is low to not take away from the residual sweetness. Enough initial bitterness and proper bottling allows for some cellaring at 55 F or lower. We do not recommend aging for more than 6 months. Heini was a dear friend of Steveís while Steve was living in Germany many years ago. We raise a glass of good cheer in honor of Heini and his generous hospitality.

Bottle shared at the 5k/7k/11k. Aroma of spice, heavy malt, and brandy. Pours dusty brown and sticky with a bit of lacing. Taste is nutmeg, cinnamon, brandy, booze, and heavy malt. Nice balance of spice and booze but still too big a beer for something as subtle as an old ale.

Bottle thanks to Dan. Pours a mostly clear dark copper color with a small white head. A sweet hot nose, caramel and barrel. The flavor is dry, dusty at times, sweet tawny port, some berries, oxidation, toffee, burnt caramel. Quite robust. Very nice beer.

Bottle from the brewery. Pours a golden brown with no head. Aromas of oak vanilla caramel and some alcohol. Tastes sweet with some alcohol burn but not too much. Lacking carbonation.

This poured a murky lighter brown color with a beige head. Aroma was of lots of broubon, oak, vanilla, and caramel, not much base beer. Flavor was similar, pretty much all barrel, base beer seemed watery and hollow, mainly just oak vvanilla water.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thin white head. Aroma heavy of booze, vanilla, sweet malt. Flavor is also heavily boozy, bourbon, oak, caramel. A bit too heavy and boozy for me, definitely enjoyed in small portions. 6/4/6/3/11 (3.0/5]
