Bottle courtesy of Braudog. Black pour with a short tan head. Aroma is roasty and slightly smoky/ashy with soft coffee notes. Taste is roasted malt, ash, light yogurt and coffee. This tastes more like a milk stout to me. Slightly lactic throughout once it hits the tongue. Body is light-medium with a soft, creamy carbonation. Slight tartness as well. Guess it’s possible this just didn’t hold up despite being in the fridge since I got it. Ends with more roasted malt, yogurt notes, light coffee and soft ashiness.

Bottle. Deep and black, with the visuals of a thick, creamy brew. This drinks with an ashy, smokiness, but still is predominately a sweet, malty brew at its base. I love the name and history behind this beer and give it extra points just for that. And to be fair, it delivers what’s promised ... a "light smoky aroma" balanced with a pilsner malt. Well done, if not assertive enough to land amonst the classical rauchbier styles. (#4725, 8/9/2012)

Draught at TND: Aroma of malt, smoke, light roasting, slight chocolate, and a hint of lactose. Poured brown/very deep amber in color with a tiny, tan head as a film on top of the beer and around the edges, which lasted around the edges only. Clear. Not sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of roasted malt, light smoke, slight smoked meat, and light milk chocolate. Medium body. Slick, then slightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Roasted malt, light smoke, and slight milk chocolate finish. Boring.
