GregClow (2351), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 28, 2003 MIBG Fest: According to the festival program, the beer I tried was "Happy's Porch Sippin' Porter". The sign at the Royal Oak tent looked to me like it said "Pappy's Porch Sippin' Porter", but maybe it said "Poppy's"? Whatever the case, this seems to be the best place to rate it. Colour was deep brown with a tan head. Nice and mild aroma of roasted malt. Creamy flavour of malt and coffee. My notes say "mild for the alcohol level", so I guess the version thay had at the fest was boozy (7% or 8% is ringing a bell). hopdog (4645), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA May 8, 2006 On tap at the Royal Oak Brew Pub. Poured a dark brown color with red edges and a small sized off white head. Aromas of stronger chocolate, roasted malts, and very light coffee. Tastes of stronger coffee, lighter chocolate, and roast. I was also getting a lactose quality to this one. Very nice lacing left on the glass. flemdawg (484), Naples, Florida, USA Mar 22, 2003 Nice head on this beer. Aroma was also very good. The taste was, as many have stated before, ok. I did enjoy the atmosphere of the brewery, and plan on visiting again to try the other brews they have. Eyedrinkale (3109), Beer Town, New York, USA May 25, 2005 Very dark, almost black with a smallish head. Aromas are rich with chocolate, espresso and roasted grains. Taste is nicely hopped with a strange bitterness however. Medium bodied and very drinkable. Silphium (2028), Lansing, Michigan, USA Oct 17, 2005 On tap at Royal Oak BC. Dark brown-red body, thin/medium off-white head. Roasty, toasty, bitter aroma. Surprisingly hoppy body (especially after I tried the surprisingly malty ASA) complementing the roasty, toasty malts with bitter pine and hints of grapefruit. I think I was in Amarillo land. Coffee is also prevalent. Unusual porter but a tasty one too.
